hard to beat that color...
and it looks like it still has the original muncie shifter.

the real question is do the back / up lights still work?

When the seller backed it out of storage, one of the lights worked. I am hoping for a burned out bulb.

If you want a sleeper, silver is the colour to have. Looks like you could take that car straight to a car show. When you fire an L78 up you will get lots of looks. People aren't expecting the sound. You sure won't fool people into thinking it is an L34 or L35. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks guys for your comments. You are a class act and I value all of your opinions. I fell victim to the shiny paint, the color combination and it being so clean so I paid allot more than what I had budgeted for a car. It has Canadian documentation dated in 2002 so I am going to guess it was restored around that time. There are some things that are wrong and need to be redone but I can do those over time and as the budget allows. From what I went over on Saturday most of the main parts are numbers matching and have the right date codes. The car sounds great with solid lifters but compared to the last big block car I had it feels kind of flat with stock exhaust and it has been pretty sitting around for the last few years. My original plan was to buy a car that was not numbers matching that I could play with and put headers, 3 inch exhaust, hurst shifter and MSD ignition on it. Well my plans have been changed but it is all good.

Nice car Mark! Can't beat those west coast cars! And BTW you can still make some of those chages you want to on that car but just don't tell M. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif SHHHHH! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I just got the paperwork back from GM of Canada. The car is a real L-78 per their paperwork and it did come with a M-22 and redlines. It was shipped on 3/3/69 and sold at McClure motors Ltd. in Wingham On. I did not want to get to excited because the seller only had a photo copy. This same day service from GM is great.

Hi Mark I just thought I would let you know I helped restore that car last winter. The fellow I helped restore the car with lived in Brantford Ontario. Not only did I help with the resto but the car was originally sold by my brother-inlaw Keith McClure who owned the dealership in Wingham . Funny thing is Keiths nephew picked up a 1968 chevelle with a 396 and M-22 the same day. The chevelle is still around the city with less tahn 16,000 miles and original paint.

Mark,

Congratulations on a great looking real car you've got there, it looks like a keeper. I love http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif the color combination also. That car reminds me of my '70 Big Block Nova, although not numbers matching or original but it too had a nasty big block with a 4 spd and bench seat. I might just have to cruise down to the OC to check it out. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I grew up in Chester, Pa and my one of my best friends had the 69 Nova SS/L78 with the Turbo400...column mounted and vinyl floors WITH a bench seat!! It was Dark Green
He ran ALL the time at Cecil County in MD; C/SA. That thing would up-shift from 1st to 2nd by itself, then he manually upshifted it from 2nd to 3rd. GOD......I wish I knew if the car is still around. The owner back then was Bruce Graf

It is kind of weird how things work out. I sent Paul some frames from a Chevy store here in Anaheim Ca. because his car was sold new from down here and it ended up in Canada. Sam your Savoy is the best but the story makes it that much better. My best friend in Fresno Ca. has a upholstery shop and auto parts store that has been in the family for 4 generations. I remember rooms of material from the 20s on up and they save everything. It is hard work but the stories of the cars that have come and went are the best. In fact I am having him look for a rubber mat for the Nova. The car did not get the upgraded interior so I am assuming that it should have a rubber mat in place of the carpet.

Bart you are welcome anytime. Jeff private mail me on another black on black 1969 SS396-375hp Nova automatic that is down in the San Diego area. It is in real nice condition with a build sheet and is mostly numbers matching. The guy wanted $45K.

Let us know the trim tag data, and that will help determine if you need the rubber mat or not. It looks like it has the custom interior items on it now, and if it's a 731 interior then the seat covers and door panels need to be changed as well. Might be easier to leave it as is.

Good deal on the GM of Canada paperwork, any unusual options on it?

Hi Marlin, I spoke too soon. I was looking at the options and did not see the upgraded interior. The trim tag is the 732 interior so like you said it would be best to leave everything alone. The rest of the options are:
B-37 Front and rear mats, G-80 Posi rear end, J-50 Power brakes, J-52 Front disc brakes, L-78 396 Special performance motor, M-22 Heavy duty close ratio trans, PK-6 E70-14 Redline tires, U-25 Luggage lamp, U-26 Underhood lamp, U-28 ash tray lamp, U-29 Courtesy lamp instrument panel, U-35 Electric clock, U-63 AM radio, U-80 Auxiliary rear speaker, V-48 Engine coolant-increased protection, ZJ-1 Custom interior (got to get glasses), ZJ-9 Auxiliary lighting group, ZK-8 Label tire pressure, ZL-3 Fisher body SS conversion, ZQ-7 Canadian warranty book, Z-26 Super sport package and W-84 Additional fuel for delivery.
Hey the car does not list exterior trim. Does the standard window trim look the same as the polished aluminum trim but it is painted body color? Does anybody know where to get seat track extenders for a bench seat?

Jeff when he told me about somebody that owned a farm from Salinas that made a point of pronouncing his last name clearly I thought it might be you. Are you still looking for a 32 ford? A buddy of mine told me last night about a 32 ford 3-window for $45k in the mid-west states that is being advertised in some old car magazine. It has a 305, original body, glass fenders and solid steel wheels. Private mail me if you want more information.

Mark,

I am still looking for a steel 32...when Boyd's builds still carried some clout 10 years ago I had my wishlist set on a 3w...now that times have changed, something about an "Old School" looking 5w really does something for me. I keep getting sidetracked on finding a Hot Rod when all of these awesome muscle cars keep popping up. I did found an really nice 32 Vicky but I think it's out of my $ range. it's funny you mentioned me pronouncing my last name...I heard his voice message and the last part was in Japanese and I thought it may help...LOL. Once again, congrats on a really cool L-78, it looks FANTASTIC! are you heading down to the B-J next month?

Hi Jeff, To be honest I found the ad on the internet. If you still want a 396/375 there is the black automatic with a build sheet down in San Diego. It looks like a nice car and the guy has had it for sale for awhile at $45k. He would not budge on the price when I talked to him about 6 weeks ago but maybe things have changed now. The silver car is nice but it is not perfect with a few things wrong. I learned my lesson on not looking at cars before I buy them so when I was interested in a car from out of my area I had to factor in the flight and transportation. So the silver car started making sense in the long run. I have never had the chance to go to the auctions yet. I have to wait till my kids are a little older before I can go. I will be watching it on TV.
