would it be safe to say that "most" 69 copo camaro's had the center mount gas guage between speedo and tach (non console). would any have the speedo and fuel guage with the clock or blank out pod in center. dennis

I'm fairly sure documented examples of all dash layout varieties have been found. As for the most "common", I'd guess it would be large fuel gauge with no tach/console. That's just a guess though.

I'm with camarojoe. The center fuel gauge/tach is rare [1,410] in any Camaro.

And 201 of those were Yenko COPOs.

Not true. Yenko Camaros built in the batch after 06A had factory in-dash tachs and center mount fuel gauges...The center fuel gauge was indeed rare, but some of the Yenkos had them. Most people think the SW pedestal tach was found in all the Yenko Camaros, when in fact it was not.

Don Yenko found that he could order the factory tach option cheaper than the SW tach's were costing to buy/install. -JB

You're right Joe. What was I thinkin? My brain fart had me thinking 9737, but I know it was tied to factory tach.

COPO 9737 didn't have anything to do with a factory tach either... it simply included the 140 mph speedometer, larger front sway bar and 15x7 rally wheels.

Is the center fuel gage on a Z-28 rare ?
I guess the majarity of them had the console.
Is there a breakdown on this option ?

I would guess the center fuel gauge was more common on Z/28 than any other trim level of Camaro, simply because the only way a car received one is when a tachometer was specified but no console and/or console gauges were ordered. I would think quite a few Z's were spec'd this way in comparison with base cars, and even SS cars, as a tach was a vital part of owning a high revving Z/28, but a console was not. I believe a tach was even included with the Z/28 package for a portion of the model year, whereas a console and other gauges never were required. While rare, i think the majority of center fuel gauges would have been in the Z/28s, with maybe a handful in base, SS, and COPO cars. I don't think there's any breakdown of this, it's just my opinion.

FWIW, My dad also had a 69 Z non-console car with a center fuel guage. Seems like most i've ever seen/heard of were in Z cars.

My understanding on yenko camaros the u16 option was included in the 9737 copo number around May of 69. To verify this we would need to find a yenko camaro's factory window sticker. If u16 is not listed as an rpo, it was included in the copo build.

Maybe, but GM Window stickers for Yenko's are about non-existant. Yenko disposed of those and replaced them with his own as soon as they rolled off the truck. Better luck would be to find a window sticker for a non Yenko sold COPO with the 9737 option built after May. Do all known "double copos" built after this time have factory tachs?

That is what I would like to know. Yes Don was a shrewd businessman and removed the factory windowstickers but I figured a shipper copy or two slipped thru.

I have 2 shippers copies for Yenkos, one being for an 06A car with the tach/center fuel gauge. It is not on the shipper copy and the 9737 price was higher than the others.

That is great information. With it not listed on a shipper as an rpo, then one could conclude it was part of the 9737, hence the price increase.

But after what William said, sounds like it did....at least for late double COPOs
