Weather is kinda ugly today. Rain and winds at about 50 mph. Running on a generator that won't run the well. Roof of my shop is barely holding the solar panels for my swimming pool. The pool that is a safe haven for the lawn furniture that now resides in it. http://www.yenko.net/attachments/309400-P1010009.JPG

I just flew from Seattle to Burbank and back to Seattle and the winds at Sacramento, Oakland, and San Francisco airports were all southwesterly at about 40 gusting to 60 knots. We were glad we were going to Burbank where the wind was light and variable. Ride was lousy until we got up to 39,000 southbound and 40,000 northbound.

Charlie
I recall the storms of Feb 1986,that flooded everything in your area. My wife and I had visited the Napa region and then headed to Palm Springs. Cut the trip short because of Weather and headed north. Got stranded in Santa Rosa. Next day we headed to SF to head east to I5 so we could take that north. Everything was flooding around Sacramento so we kept moving until we got to higher ground.
Bought a Honda EU6500 generator this year. Super quiet and puts out 5500 watts. Can run the main rooms in the house off it.
Hang in there!!

The weeping willow will continue to grow (upwardly ) where it lays. Or, you can partially bury almost any size cutting from that tree to make more.

Hey Charlie......Might be a good investment to get a transfer switching station. Living FL. I went through the hurricanes from 2004 and being without a Well for a week was unbearable, I swore I would never go through that again. I have a 6000 watt generator thats not powerful enough to run central A/C, so I installed a window unit for the bedroom and can switch to whatever curcuits I need at the time so If I need water I can switch it to the well and if I want to run the fridge I can do that without overloading the generator. etc. The stations are sold at LOWES for around $500 and well worth it.And you can do all this right inside your Home or Garage whichever you prefer. The trick is to map out all of your existing circuits at your fuse panel and figure all of your wattages for the size of your Generator. A licensed electrician is a must though. Good luck and Hunker down as they say here in the Sunshine state. I will attach a pic of what they look like. The brand name is Reliance.

Yes that is very simular to mine. I chose to have the remote outlet option mounted outdoors as thats where the Generator is, running 50 ft. away from the building Iam powering IE: no fumes. I built a small insulated watertight large dog house sized enclosure with a hinged roof that also cuts down on the drone of the generator.

Last night I went to bed with power and water..This morning I wake up to no power. I want my morning coffee but noooooo...I have to go start the generator. After about 3 pulls on the rope of the 10 hp Coleman POS generator it fires and runs for maybe 5 seconds but then shuts off. This is all being done by the light of my truck. I pull and I pull and I pull on that friggen rope with that cold thick oil in that engine and keep wishing I had taken better care of my back when I was young. Pull the spark plug, bead blast it clean by flashlight..{I have air in my air tank). Still no start. Pull plug again, ground it and pull friggen rope and there is no spark from this POS Coleman. Go in house, Wife offers to go to Starbucks.....Power comes on......ARRGH !!!

paid 500 bucks for it then one day was at home depot and saw a generac 7550 exl running watts 7550 surge 13000
automotive oil filter and oil pump with an Electric start
for 600 bucks On the net they were running about 2.500 bucks ao I asked if thatr was the right price when I was told it was I bought it right there and sold the pos Coleman the Generac is a much better unit
Have it in a insulated shed and with the door partly closed the nose is not bad at all
Will run about 10 hours on a tank of gas
the best part is the Electric start pulling the rope on a 13 hp motor will tried you out quick

Folks around Springfield, MO had a long, long night...last I heard were a couple of confirmed deaths, but they were still digging through lots of rubble. Took the roof clean off one of the schools in Republic, and lots of other schools in the area are closed due to damage...numerous seperate tornadoes on the ground, lots of baseball size and bigger hail...bad, bad, bad. I keep a close eye on Springfield, as my eldest daughter lives there with her mother.

Stayed pretty much west of us, though, as we just got the straight line gusts and rain/hail...hit here around 4:30am...sounded like a freight train coming across the bottom field...never heard anything like it, just a slow build of wind & noise over about 20 seconds, and then all heck broke loose. About 1/2 between our house and town a guy lost the roof off one of his shops and one end of it, framing and all, was gone, with a lot of it lieing on top of the garage next to it...they kept saying on the radio early this morning that a shop building south of Alton had lost it's roof, so everyone was calling to see if it was ours! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Just heard on the radio, and checked the radar...looks like we're gonna get some more this morning...not as serious, but more wind & hail...is this January or July?!

Be Careful Denis...........9 months after the New York City Blackout the Birthrate went up......Looks like you are in the same situation.......EH!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif Good Luck with the Snow Blower.......Ken http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Hey Ken. Never mind the birthrate. Here in the Sierras, people start eating each other when it snows too much!

Self-respecting Canadians don't need no snowblower...this is but a 'dusting' of snow...

Welp, Kat & I stopped by our buddy's shops that got hit...he got hit in a bad way. He runs a home/auto HVAC business in the smaller shop in front, and his 2 sons run an autobody business out of the bigger shop directly behind...anyway, half the big shop is gone, and the majority of his smaller shop is gone...I shouldn't say "gone", as a lot of it is in tree tops down across the holler. You can see the path from across the highway, over his place, and on across the next ridge...across the highway from his place is a creek feeds the creek in our bottom field, so I'm guessing that locomotive sound around 4:30am was the wind that wrecked his place, I'd say the sound was traveling down the creek/holler. Another house between his house and mine has part of the roof gone also.

Coulda been worse, our buddy and his wife live in a trailer house not more than 25 feet from the shop, and his elderly mother lives in another small house about 20 feet on the other side of him, but they weren't touched...no insurance on the shops, though.

Bad deal, but understandable. Small businesses in small towns have a tough time and insurance costs eat heavily into the bottom line. Probably much more common than many of us realize.
Tough to look on the bright side when you're dealing with something like this but they DID escape unharmed. I'm betting the community steps up to help them rebuild and keep going. That's small town America at it's best. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Welp, even though the National Weather Service never put us in a watch/warning, they *officially* declared that it was an indeed a tornado that tore up the shop & houses just up the road from us...one of 29 in southern Missouri that evening! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif
