Interior plastic paint. What works,

I have a set of black shoulder belt covers that I need to get blue. I have not painted plastic interior pieces before and would like some advice. What to use and what is the best matching blue.. Brian, Frank, anyone?

Darren, I used the Fade Away Vinyl Recoloring System from Just Dashes. I have some blue left over from doing my interior pieces for my 69 Chevelle. If you send them an original piece with the correct color, they will match it. It is a little expensive for all you need though, I think a 1 quart kit cost me $115 back then but I did all my vinyl and plastic pieces for my Chevelle. My interior was dark blue, if you have any questions call me at 717-734-3010.

Darren, Here is another excellent product that is excellent to use and is inexpensive for small jobs. Go to your parts supplier and ask for SEM Color Coat Flexible Coating, I have used this also to do the plastic arm rest bases for my 69 Z with white interior, the super white #15103 was a perfect match for my white interior. I am not sure what or how many different colors of blue they have....it's worth checking out.

I have found for hard plastic stuff like kick panels, backs etc, lacquer spray cans work great. For the slightly flexible stuff the SEM stuff works great.

Did your 69 Z have a parchment interior? Or was it white?
Just curious if this SEM #15103 would be a good match for my parchment 69 Chevelle interior pieces?

Jim, SEM has a couple different shades of white, so I would suggest trying them all for the best match. My interior is listed as Ivory on the window sticker.

Darren, If you can find the SEM product in the right color, that sounds like the easiest way to do it, but if not here's another suggestion. If you can find the original PPG formula number for the interior color, you can have it mixed in laquer, then add a flex agent PPG sells. You'd have to spray it yourself with a detail gun, but I've done this many times on plastic and vinyl interior parts and they turned out great.

I don't have the information for your particular car, but Those paint numbers can be found in the issue of Chevrolet Service News which announces all the New Product Features for the upcoming year. Also, I'd believe an old auto body paint supply store would have the formulas in old books, crossed from the Trim code on the cowl tag.
