State inspection decals

I cannot find the link but some time ago one was posted on here for a source for individual state inspection decals from back in the 60-70's. Can anyone supply me with that link again? I need one for New York. Thanks,

Thanks Greg and Sam for your quick responses. This was what I was looking for.

Can anyone in New York or who knows how the system worked tell me when a 1970 car would receive an inspection decal? I would assume that you would not have to have your car inspected for at least 1-2 years after purchasing it new. Also, would the month of the inspection be on the anniversary of the original purchase, in other words, same month.

I am looking to replace the two in this photograph and am not sure what the decal on the right was for. The one on the left I assume is the State Inspection Decal. Unfortunately, the winshield is long gone.

The sticker on the right is the NYS DMV registration sticker...up until recently NY registratons and inspections were an annual affair...then some gov't genius decided that registratons would be good for 2 years...that way they get more $$$ upfront..safety inpsections are still annual....back in the day the reg and inspection would run together...unless you forgot to renew on time and then there may be a minor differnce in dates....tom

Thanks Tom. So with that information the first sticker that would be found on a 1970 car would be a 1971? I see that the inspection decal is dated June whereas the registration decal is dated March.

Interestingly enough, this 1970 Chevelle was sold off the dealers showroom to it's original (and last) owner in June of 1971 according to the original POP and warranty book that I have. That being the case, I will assume the inspection/registration decals should then read 1972.

Any idea where to find the registration decals? The link you sent me did not have registration decals and I was not able to find anything on the net. Thanks again for the help.

As I remember it, inspection stickers and registration stickers did not have to match. If you bought a
different car and transferred your old license plates the stickers would be different. All registrations and
inspections were good for 12 months from when issued.
If you bought a car that already had a current inspection sticker the sticker was not transferable. Your NY
registration had a box on the back which was stamped by the inspection station applying the sticker. If you
were stopped, even if the sticker was current on the windshield but the registration wasn't stamped,
you were written up. This was in effect at least through the mid eighties. After that the backs
of the registrations no longer were stamped. Back then inspections were only $3.00 so it wasn't a big deal.
Being cheap I would always wait until the 1st of the month following the expiration of the inspection to get
an extra month out of it. NY recently has changed it again so stickers expire on the 1st -14th and then the
15th to the end of the month. So much for my creativity!

This is an old window sticker - I think they went to 2 year stickers beginning with renewals in 1991.
I don't know if the window registration decal was in effect in 1970. They might have been
plate decals up until '72/ '73??

[b] 1973 is the first year for the NY registration window sticker. Plate stickers were used through 1972.
