Did all 70 Z/28 gas pedal's bolt to the floor?

Yes. There have been a few guys that say they came both ways, but to my knowledge, none have been proven with documentation.

Actually I think there is a plate with two ball mounts attached to it that bolts to the floor. The pedal pops onto the balls that stick up as I recall.

The below pictures show the special pedal, bellcrank/rod and mounting cup that make up ALL 70/71 Z-28 gas pedals.

In so far as I know, the actual firewall mount and pull cable are the same, as the standard set-up

Just out of curiousity, WHY was the gas pedal different on a 70 Z? Seems weird that the Chevelles, Novas, and any other Camaro besides the Z/28 used the "standard" type pedal and the 70 Z used this oddball setup. Anyone know what the rationalle was for its use?

I was just going to ask the same thing, Joe.

My guess would be: The Z28 was road raced, the others...not so much. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

to further that comment, which I believe to be a good theory, maybe they thought it would make for easier/safer heel toe shifting?!? ie your heel or foot edge would not get caught under the pedal during a downshift while road racing.

that is my hypothesis

Interesting. My 70Z is a TH400, so I can't say from experience. I do know that heel/toe is pretty much impossible on the pedal setup on my GTO http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif
