Does anybody know?
Nobody knows.
Only Chevrolet/Fisher body can answer that, and they don't even know.
The best we can do is make a guesstimate based on these recorded Chevrolet facts.
9486 RPO L-78 1969 SS Chevelle/Elcaminos produced.
6211 RPO CO-6 Electric folding top Chevelle/Malibus produced.
Add to that, the unknown figure for RPO CO-5 manual folding top as well, but how many made was not recorded.
Extrapolation is all that remains today.

As Rick says, no one knows for sure.
There is a guy named Daniel Carr from Colorado, who has put forth substantial effort to extrapolate production figures for these vehicles. He publishes a poster showing all the "guesstimated" totals. His poster estimates the following production figures for convertible 1969 Chevelles:
L78 manual trans - 180
L78 auto trans - 36
L89 manual trans - 8
L89 auto trans - 1

Check out this ebay ad#150211980516 for what the owner says is 1 of 10 69 L78 Convertibles, daytona yellow.
Where do you start, wrong pulleys, carb, headers, etc etc etc. Just another run for the money. I'm supprised that it wasn't anywhere in Scottsdale the last couple of weeks to get a good eye at !!!!!

I am sure Daniel Carr knows more about statistics than I do, but I never put much credence in his numbers. For example, with an anomaly like the LS5/LS6 figures (where the more expensive/powerful motor was more popular), he logically concludes that more ragtops were built with the LS6 than the LS5, but I don't believe that.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't be surprised if the L78 figures he speculates are more than the reality.

I've never asked Geo. Z yet but have been noticing how GM Canada sporadically provides more detailed breakdowns for some vehicles..
Anyone else notice or wonder this as it seems to suggest there may be useful information recorded for some option totals by body style for some years of Canadian built and/or delivered cars?.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a combination of having more detailed info depending on the year, combined with a system of reporting that's not the same across the board.
