View Full Version : Ebay doesn't allow sellers to accept cash payments

Sorry guys…… I don’t normally like to complain in writing but this one really pisses me off! Ebay just cancelled all my auctions because I accept CASH as a form of payment.
That’s friggin’ UN-American!
They tell me it’s against Ebay’s payment policy to state that you accept cash. I reviewed their policies and can see where you are not allowed to solicit buyers to mail cash, which makes sense, but that’s not what I stated in my listings. My payment options usually read something like: I accept cash, money orders, cashiers checks, PayPal, etc.…….. And I don’t want to state something like I accept COD, because I do not ship something that hasn’t been paid for yet.
Many of my buyers are local and prefer to pay me cash when they come pick up their items. They get to inspect the item, and if it’s what it was supposed to be they pay for it. I’ve done this since 1998 and it’s worked fine so far.
Not only that, but all my auctions are completely gone from my account, so I can’t even re-list them with the corrections they tell me I have to do! There’s a whole friggin’ day of my time originally spent listing the items completely wasted. Not to mention the listing fees I paid (which are not refunded).
So how come they couldn’t just tell me to revise the listing or it might be cancelled (still had a week to go, plenty of time)? A simple heads-up would have been sufficient to deal with the problem.
They were kind enough to contact all my bidders to tell them my auctions were cancelled. I wonder if they bothered to tell them why they were cancelled??????
OK, enough of my bitchin’…… Just thought I should warn you other Ebay sellers that evidently you can’t take cash anymore…….

Ebay did something similar to me before. I had 50 or so auctions and lost all my descriptions, etc. I wrote to them and explained the situation. They refunded all my listing fees and reinstated my auctions in the ended category of my ebay so I could relist them at the touch of a button. I'm not sure if they will do the same for you but it is definitely worth a try. Even if they do reinstate your auctions, look forward to some short sales. The auctions they reinstated did not sell for much even know there were some very nice items. I think this is because many potential buyers thought there was something fishy going on due to the sudden ending then relist. The bummer is I did nothing wrong and lost time and money due to a mistake that was not mine.
I hope it works out for you,
Jason

Thanks Charles for the heads up. One more reason to stay clear of peebait. They are just not happy if they aren't squeezing every last nickel from both sides of the table. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

The best part of ebay is where they change thier paypal page every month to try and deceive people paying with paypal to use thier bank accounts instead of a CC...the answers THEY want you to select are always the highligted ones, and they try and make you hit the PAY button before you can change the method to a CC payment. Of course its written in thier bylaws that once you make a payment there is no recourse to change it. Deception at its best. Even knowing all this, i tried to make a payment the other day and it came out of my bank accouint when i didnt want it to..

Paypal's latest scam: I just received $400 that a seller refunded from those incorrectly sized cragars I bought a month ago. I originally paid via my credit card through Paypal. Instead of refunding my credit card, Paypal made it a new Paypal balance of $400. It takes about 10 minutes of searching their website to figure out how to get your money physically back in your pocket. You have to have Paypal issue you a check...at a cost of $1.50 service charge, of course. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

You can also transfer it to your bank account for free or take it out of an ATM is you have a PayPal debit card.

But that's part of their "system." If you have a bank account, they use that as the primary funding mechanism for purchases, not your credit card. There is no way to make the credit card the permananet default funding location for purchases. That is where all the hoops and hurdles pop up when you try to change the funding location back to your credit card when you are trying to make a purchase.
It's "The Man" just trying to keep you down.

[/ QUOTE ] How strange that when you pay w paypal it is IMMEDIATELY taken from your bank account, yet when you transfer money from paypal[your money] to you bank account it takes 4 days. I guess that ensures they get to use everyiones money for 4 days longer so they can earn millions in interest in a years time times millions of users. They got all the angles covered.
Bingo!
And that's also why when a buyer pays me for something,I explain to him why I will not ship his item to him until I get the funds liquid in my bank account,as it takes time to clear.
This protects me from the buyer pulling his funds back via paypal,if he's gonna be deceptive after I ship prematurely.

Reasons 1,068---1,081 why I will never, ever, EVER use PayPal. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Regardless if you wait for funds to hit your account, all a seller has to do is contact paypal and tell them they dont like the color of thier purchase[2 months later to boot]. the second they tell paypal that, your bank account or paypal account will be accessed by paypal[remember you signed up and gave them that right]. if you dont have the money in your paypal or bank account you get booted from paypal. meanwhile the buyer has your item and doesnt have to pay for it. The ONLY defense is to keep a 1.00 bank account balance and a zero paypal balance, and remember the second someone pays you again with paypal the MAN will take whats owed him out of your payment. Thats why paypal asks you to contact them FIRST before calling your CC company if you have a problem with your purchase. It gives them a heads up to go after the sellers bank account balance and paypal balance to make sure they get thiers in the hopes the seller doesnt have a zero balance on his bank account and PP account . If the CC company gets contacted first they go right after paypal for the money. paypal doesnt like when you do that to them and they may ban you, even if you were ripped off. Bottom line is the CC company trumps paypal. Thats why Paypal wants everyone to sign up for a paypal CC,so they can run the WHOLE show. Did i mention i dont like paypal???? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
Agreed.Once I have the funds liquid in my bank account,I then transfer them out of there to get that accounts balance at zero for the very reasons you mentioned.

I was thinking about not using PayPal anymore. I've never been burned, but hearing more and more horror stories I think it is time to ban PayPal. Is there another auction site that is similar to ebay? I was reading ebay forums and there was some mention of a Yahoo auction. Haven't looked into it though. Another thing I don't understand is starting soon, you can't leave negative feedback for a bad buyer. You can only leave positive feedback regardless of what happens.

when all these states spend all the money they got from the tobacco companies, they will go after paypal and ebay next.
they will do just like the tobacco coampanies, and give billions to these states so they can carry on,while the states turn a blind eye.
