I was told there are two correct clutch fans for the LS-6's.
I have one with no part numbers, it has seven blades, four rivets, has a H, 3, and Front stamped on it. Is this a correct one? My friend says no he says the 772 fan is correct! Can anyone help me solve this mystery? Need photo's.
Thanks! John

I thought I read on this site on a past posting that many of the ls-6 fans were not stamped with a part number but were the 772 style. Rick (ss427) will hopefully confirm since I believe it was his feedback. My LS-6 fan is not stamped with a part number but my ls-5 one is a 772. They look the same side by side.

I believe the 064 fan is for the 4.10 gear cars only, and the 772 fan for the 3.31 geared cars.
There may be two different style 772 fans, not counting the numbered and non-numbered. I will check a couple I have, but seems to me there was a squared off center hub, and a pointed center hub style. By that I mean the area where the blade is riveted. I'll get some pics today to show this.

That goes against what I've heard. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif Is the car all original and documented to be that way? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Documented with build sheet and has the original fan.

Maybe Rick Nelson can shed some light on this. It's the first one I've heard of built that way.

This is pretty easy question to explain. LS6 cars all received a seven blade HD fan coded with a W or a 64 on the buildsheet. There is no difference regarding gear ratio for the fan application meaning regardless of the car receiving the 4.10 option or one of the two 3.31 rears, all cars would still get the 3976064 fan blade. If you have a buildsheet for your car, box # 21 will give you the information for the fan and clutch assembly. Depending on plant, the codes will read W CV or 64 CV . The W and the 64 denotes the 064 fan, the CV is the Eaton fan clutch code.
Regarding identifying the fan blade, there are 2 versions of the 064 fan supplied to the assembly plants. Both blade designs are virtually identical except in the manner that the blades are attached to the hub. Dated versions use a square pattern 4 rivet pattern while the undated version is more of a triangular pattern with a corresponding recess that matches the hub design.
These fans are different than the 772 fans in that the blade is squared off with multiple notches versus the 772 fans having a gentle curve to the end of the blade.
If you were to prove you indeed had a car built with a 772 fan, the code in box 21 would need to be a V instead of a W which I personnaly have never seen.
Regarding dated fans versus non dated, my experience has been that most cars received an undated version from the factory. Only 2 dates of dated 064 fans ever surface, M69 for Dec 69 and E70 for May of 70.

I've found the #6064 fan was also used during 1971 on the LT-1 Camaro,LS-5 Monte C.,and the 402cid Camaro-Monte Carlos that came with Air Conditioning.

Is this the "064" fan? It has the same # (914390)that preceeds the date code, and it looks identical, although dated B75...probaly just an over the counter replacement, or did GM use the same fan for different applications after 1970?
