Jim Hanke (wheelhop) and I had a busy but fun weekend. We left Friday morning for a road trip to Colorado To deliver the Douglass Yenko and pick up the 1968 Camaro I took on trade. We left at 5:30 am and got to Waynes at about7:30pm. We stayed long enough to drop off the trailer and take a quick tour of his collection since we were going to stay at a friend of Jims who lives about 90 minutes away. We were going to go back in the morning to unload and reload.
When we arrived at Jims friends house it was about 10 pm.
Jims friend Mark had a 71 Camaro and a older Buick 225 conv. so he also was a car guy. Anyways we talked for a while and I went to bed. The next morning we woke up and Mark shows me his cars and asks if he could come see the collection. I called Wayne and he said ok. When we get there Mark sees the 68 Camaro and ends up buying it from me. Check attachment

While moving cars around I am thinking about I have a few extra dollars and we are going to be heading back to Chicago with a empty trailer. Something didnt seem right about this. I start looking around and then remember the night before Wayne was saying how he just bought a car it was a 600 mile original paint car so he now has two of them. I asked him what he was doing with the other and the answer was he was going to sell it. Thats all I needed to hear a little later I had a car to bring back with me.

Pete all garage shots are of Waynes collection he had 2 Superbirds and a daytona. He has owned the one I bought since 2003 and just purchased a Petty blue 600 mile original Superbird to upgrade his collection It took about 3 hours of rearranging to get my Superbird out and the Daytona back in its place.. The Daytona he has is the only Mr. Norm sold Daytona.
Bruce it was a pleasure that evening we went to dinner next year ww will both be looking for rides.

Thanks John!.
Being mesmerized by all the muscle, I wasn't sure what shop pics were where?.
Seeing the Rapid Transit sign behind the lift of the two winged cars and the order of pics made me notice the swap and think it must've happened at your shop?.

John called me on the way to Wayne's house and told me he sold the yenko and was taking a 68 camaro on trade. He called me on the way back and said "guess what" Jim's friend mark saw the car and had to have it so he bought it from me,John paused and i said "what did you buy" and John laughed and told me about the Superbird. I knew he could not come home with an empty trailer and a pocket full of cash. Congrats on the superbird! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

John, Thanks for helping me and Robin rearrange our car storage building. It was a lot of work, but it turned out great and we enjoyed your company.
We are proud to have your white Douglass Yenko in our collection and hope the orange 4 speed Superbird brings you as much enjoyment as it did to us. I have met the best car people thru this Yenko SuperCar Club site. Most of you have been a class act and have made me feel right at home;although I don't post very often, I do check the site every single day.
I would like to invite any members traveling through the desolate Northeast corner of Colorado to give me a call and we'll give you and your friends a tour.

P.S. Thanks Colin for the Mr. Norm's Daytona and Boss 302.
Thanks Rich P. and Charlie L. for all your help!

Dans right I had a green wing car back around 1986. I was at a party and heard someone talking how there was a Superbird sitting unincorrporated Melrose Park in a guys backyard and had been there for years. That was only five minutes away from wher I lived. The next morning I got up early and went looking for this Superbird, I drove around for hours and couldnt find it. I drove around one last time and finally seen a couple of 4X8 sheets of plywood laying up against a car I got out and there it was. It was pretty disappointing no doors, no wing, intake and carb missing. The car was pretty rotted from sitting there so long.
I go and ring his door bell and he answers and I asked if it was for sale he said he bought it brand new and wasnt selling it. I was curious and asked him what happened to it and he said he used to live behind East Leyden High school and when he went on vacation one year the high school kids stripped the car and he never fixed it.
About six months later I get a call from the guy and said he wanted to buy a new Mustang and wanted to sell it we came up with a price and I dug it out of the mud and brought it home.
I went back to the area the car was stripped at and started asking around if anybody knew anything about what happened to the parts. I really was interested in getting the wing back this one guy said he knew who took the stuff and told me where he lived. He said he had put the doors on a I think it was a GTX and sold the car but the guy who bought the GTX was stripping it for parts. I went to the guys house and the doors were there I even brought the key with me and it locked and unlocked the doors so I bought the doors. The wing was long gone but even back then I found one and had to pay 1800.00 for it. The doors didnt have a spot of rust on them that bird was really a rust free car before being stripped. By the time I sat down and fiqured what it would cost to fix it wasnt worth it so I put it in Hemmings and sold it for a pretty good profit. I hear the car went to Arizona and was restored 2 years ago in a body shop back in Brookfield Il only about 10 miles away from where I found it.

another car that found its way back was the douglass Yenko. The Douglass Yenko was delivered to Jack Douglass chevrolet in Hinsdale Il. It is believed that it was dealer traded to Rowe Chevrolet in Fort Collins Co. The first record of where the car was is in 1973 in Englewood Co. just outside denver from there it went to Nebraska then to Kansas then Wisconsin and then back to within 10 miles from Jack Douglass Chevrolet in IL. now its back to just about were it started again.
