View Full Version : America, from the mind of Jay Leno ...

<font color="blue"> Jay Leno puts it into perspective and makes us think about the pathetic negativity. That's right, Jay Leno!!

Jay Leno wrote this; it's the Jay Leno we don't often see.... </font>

<font color="brown">
"The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true, given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed, and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence, 2/3's of the citizenry just isn't happy and want a change.

So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ''What are we so unhappy about?'' Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?

Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?

Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time, and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state?

Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?

I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough.

Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all, and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.

Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss.

This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers.

How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S., yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the President who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The President who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same President who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11?

The President that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks?

The Commander-In-Chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad?

Think about it... are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it be cause the "Media" told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.

Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country.

They didn't have to go.

They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an ''other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario,
a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans?

Say what you want, but I blame it on the media.

If it bleeds, it leads; and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by "justifying" them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about "how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way"... Insane!

Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad.

We are among the most blessed people on Earth, and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative.

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

unemployment figures are based on claims, not those who had their claims run out,and are still un employed, like engineers, computers programmers,etc..

it's a lot worse than 5%.

The problem with what he saying is he is looking at it thru his world, now a days most politicians are greed driven. If you have a failing company you step back and make cuts even if it effects you theese politicians will not they just want to keep taxing us instead of fixing it. I think every body appreciates where we have been the problem is middle America sees where we are going. Jay Leno has no idea in his perfect world.

And as far as Wallyworld, it's not close to me but when I did go to one years ago didn't they have "American Made" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif signs on most of the products? Is it the same crap as the other box stores? Is anything made in America anymore? The mom and pop where I shop sells the same chineese crap!

The first few lines here attribute this letter to Leno. Snope's state it's the last paragraph. Or perhaps I've misread it somewhere.
Yes. I have an issue with statements that are claimed to be complete, and true, when they are either taken out of context, or misrepresented. Mr Leno may not agree with any of this other than the last paragraph, but his name is tied to it. It doen't matter if you agree with the statement, or not. The issue is other than the last paragraph it's bogus. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif

I have to agree. My Dodge pickup was built in Mexico and my wife's Honda was built in North Carolina. Which is "more American" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

At least Honda is providing good jobs for Americans.

But where are the professional jobs, i.e. designers, engineers, most management, etc. at Honda located and where do the profits go from the plants here?

Yes American cars are built outside the US. Also Jap crap is built outside Japan. They think just like us. If it can be built cheaper I will go there. We started building out side the US for cheaper labor. So did they. Now here comes the rub American cars THE PROFFITS STAYS HERE!!!! The big three have donated billions of dollars in this country from Schools to zoos. SHOW ME ONE JAP AUTO COMPANY THAT HAS DONATED A CENT TO THIS COUNTRY. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Honda , toyota &amp; nissan are all non-union labor 30% less than American car companies are paying. When your Grand kids Have to take a JOB out side the US let me know how that works out for them!!

I am afraid that the current state of the school system and the new cultural values of this country are not turning out quaulity Engineers,Scientists etc. Our education system is broken!!!!!! The focus MUST get back to the basics and get away from the "Its not your fault, No letter Gardes, Self asteem, Even the playing field crap" if we are to compete in those arenas where ever the jobs are.

Competition made us better winners by teaching us the pain of loosing.

IMO people get too bent only thinking about where CARS are from. Take a look at the tag on your shirt, the brand on your television, cell phone, digital camera, computer, etc.

I personally don't care as much about where the profits for a company goes. I care about where the JOBS are. I guess my grandkids (if I ever have any) maybe could move to Mexico and build Dodges, or Canada and build GMs.

By the way, it took me 2 seconds to find this with Google about Toyotas donations to local communities. I'm sure if I looked for 2 minutes I could find lots more. Get informed before you make statements you can't back up.

Toyota so called donation 13.4 million since 1996. That figures out to 1.1 million a year. They build 500,000 cars &amp; trucks per year That's 2 dollars per 30,000.00 vehicle BIG WUP.!!! GM donates 61 to 68 million each year!!

Back in the sixties it was hard to find a gas station that would repair foreign cars.
(Yes gas stations used to fix cars!)
Otto's was the only place I can remember that would repair a foreign car, and he only handled VW and Porsche.

I'm no expert on Jay, but he was a guy from Massachusetts that worked his ass off ( 300 shows a year ) and did very well because of it. He does not strike me as a Sean Penn type and I think he remembers growing up in a Middle class home. His dad was an Insurance salesman. His world now seems pretty good and so good for him. Thats a great http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif example of the American dream

Kim, do you still insure Mustangs? They roll out of a plant that says "Mazda" on the side of the building. How about the Pontiac that comes out of a Toyota factory in CA? Or the Chevy built by Suzuki, or the Saturn with the Honda motor in it? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Fuuny thing ,

If you look into GM's latest you find that their largest gain in market share was in overseas sales. It appears that they have grown a substatial market share outside of the us and the majority of the loss posted was in the US market.

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

It makes you wonder how many non GM cars are owned by GM employees and their families, and employees and families that work for companies that are major suppliers to GM. I know if my livelyhood was gained by working at GM I would be buying thier products. I wonder if all the employees of the overseas opperations are buying GM stuff.

I know it's not that simple but...........

Makes you wonder http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
