I'm between a rock & a hard place. I need to have my '62 transported from Gilbertsville Pa to Hightstown NJ ASAP ENCLOSED. The weather is not good for an open trailer or roll-back. It needs to move Fri, Sat or Sun. I will cover ALL costs plus what-ever you want for the tow. I'll throw in dinner here at my place. I'm causing my friend a problem because the car is done and is now taking up space in his shop for billable hours for him. I've tried every other avenue I know of and nothing is working out. Please pm me if you can help as soon as possible.
One way is about 86 mi. Is there anyone who can help me so I don't hurt a friendship?
Thanks http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif Verne

Verne I can probably do it with my 24" trailer if you need me. It also depends on the weather, with the storm coming in tonight through Saturday. I wouldn't want to chance doing this in an ice storm! Give me a call. I will PM you my #.

I can back Steve up over the weekend if needed.

My trailer is open, but I'm about 25 miles from Gilbertsville and can offer inside storage if it helps.

You guys are the greatest http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif I'm trying to unravel the knots in my stomach. I talked to Njsteve and Ronnie. I'll call Ronnie tomorrow night to see how much ice etc he has, then call Steve Sat am. Steve doesn't want to experience another icy tow like he had to years ago, especially with someone elses car!
I'll try to keep everyone else posted. Al & Dog, thank you both so much! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif Depending on what happens, I may still may some extra help. Like I said, you guys are the greatest!!!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I highly recommend one of you taking advantage of this.

Hey Verne...

Just noticed this post..I live in Yardley pa, about 15-20 miles to hightstown...but have no clue where Gilbertsville is...?? Anyway, I have a nice enclosed trailer that I hardly ever use...Ive had it 4 years and havent used it more than 10 times...Anyway, if you are in a pinch and it doesn't work out with NJSteve, let me know...I am a bit busy tomorrow, but you are welcome to borrow it and if you need my suburban you can use that too... as long as you buy the gas!! I hate to drive the thing because of that!! All this Go Green talk..hehe...ok..its really the price of gas!!
Anyway, I will be around today, so let me know... Max

Just wanted to let everyone know that the car is home safe & sound and out of Ronnie's hair, thanks to NJSteve. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif He worked his butt off and gave up most of his day to help me out of this jam. It's hard to find the words to express my gratitude http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif He deserves a gold star!
And I want to thank the other guys on this thread who also made generous offers to help. This wasn't the first time I've received special favors from the great guys I've met on this forum. Steve, I hope you got to spend some time with your family later today. You have a wonderful wife and son and it was a pleasure meeting them. No problem Verne. It was nice to see a car going back together, even if it isn't mine. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

And it was a first time for me, to have someone try to bargain me up on the amount of gas money reimbursement for a trip. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I told Verne one price and he forced me to take more!

It was a fun day Verne, Now get that blue beast back on the road. It sure is pretty. Love that color!

I was thinking on the way to your house, that I was trailering something that was born the same year as me...and it looked a heck of lot better, with lower mileage, too.

I've posted a couple pics before but here it is. It’s a one owner 29Kmi. Original engine trans and rear. He had a fender bender in the mid '70s and decided to repaint the whole car with lacquer and clear. There were a bunch of little scuffs in the clear along with some legs and antennae left from summer evening flying critters, so it needed a "haircut"; 2000 wet then buffing and polishing. He also had the underside of the hood painted Nassau Blue, so Ronnie took care of that too.
This is the "before" pic. When I get it back out in the sun, I'll take a couple more to show how it turned out. By the way Steve, those are the old ETs (15x7) that we talked about.

Joe, you're too much!
Actually, those "chrome reverses" (believe it or not) are legit RPO 14x6 chrome wheels offered in '64. The car has had a number of different "rollers" on it for various reasons. Right now it's sitting on a set of chrome rallys from a buddy of mine because he doesn't have space for them and I had to get the ETs dismounted for some curb rash repairs.
The photo of Lovely Linda was with the convertible and you can always find it on the Member's Rides thread of that car.
Steve and I were on a mission, so I didn't take the time to look it over as closely as I wanted. I can't wait till it can come out in the sun again for a good close look. When I first got there I ran the backside of my finger over the top of the quarter panel and it couldn't have felt smoother! Ronnie said, "keep you hands off that car"! You see, Ronnie has already taken "ownership" of it in his mind. I can't say enough about how well Ronnie took care of it, just as though it was his own (which he plans on). It's not perfect, but it's as good as it can be. I can't wait to get this car back together. I just hope my health holds out and I can get it to Indy in July at the NIA convention.
And Sam, I'll never own a car as cool as your Savoy! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Here's the decal on the 1/4 windows. The P&G valve gapper in it's original wooden box was in the trunk and I have the receipt for it.

Finally had a good day to switch cars in garages, so I dusted it off and really checked it over. Overall, very happy, considering the paint is a little over 30 years old. Still have a couple little places that could use some polishing and glazing. 100% better than it was.

Here are some more. I used to think that flourescents showed "everything", but some people say sunlight does. Well, maybe it's a combination. I did learn one thing though....it isn't just the black cars that show everything. Once you have a car that is very smooth, the light will show the same light swirl marks. It's like you just can't get rid of them. And on top of that, there's always dust in the air, and the best you can do will be dusty within 2 minutes! It just depends on how close you look and how the light is.
There are still some very little spots that could use a touch of polish and glaze. OF course, there's no wax on it yet. Like I said, for something that got painted in '76, '77, '78 (not sure yet) and with clear at the time when there was no such thing as "basecoat-clearcoat", I'm pretty happy and feel lucky it's still so nice.

I still have some trim and emblems to put back on that I removed to make things easier for Ronnie. I'm feeling the deadline. It has to be done for the trip to Indy in July. And there's a LOT more to do, since it was sitting since '90.

Glenn,
These are about the most "overall" shots I took. I was trying to capture more close detail to show how it turned out. Far away stuff just doesn't show that. I doubt these look any better than the before shots I've already posted, but here are a couple as far as I have.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/VerneFrantz/Paintafterhaircut009sm.jpg

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j320/VerneFrantz/Paintafterhaircut008sm.jpg

Verne http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

PS: There's still some wax build-up around some things that has been there since '90 at least. He used Blue Coral; terrible stuff to remove. Don't worry about the hood alignment; it has to come off again anyway.
