I'm going to try & view the motor tom. i was also told the XCD is on the front & back of the pass. valve cover printed on a 1/2 inch X 3 inch piece of paper & that it's old but very clear & still stuck to the valve cover very well.I will personally pull all dates & take photos. 427 KING what do you think the XCD at the end of your Suffix code stands for?

I went ahead & bought it. it has like a little white kinda mold & pretty surface rusted. I'm going to pull the bellhousing & mount it to a stand & then pull the pan & document everything.I found out that the part # is for 70 Lt1 Assembly & that the XCD is for high performance crate motor. I posted at Nasty Z also. What do you guy's think ????

Take lots of pics of the markings and codes, look on both sides of the block for the CTB or CTC written in yellow, upside down.

Look at the silver paint dripping down the block... and on the pipe plug.

Let's see some pics of the rear of the intake where it meets the block and some of the sides of the heads where the exhaust ports are.
Thanks

Yes, came with clutch, pressure plate and bell housing. Attached some pics to include intake #. Looks like last digit was ground off and a "6" was hand stamped on.

Check out the heavy orange paint on the plug wire stand... drips on the intake, that is great!
There was a discussion about the ground off numbers and stampings on the main disussion board this weekend.

What'd they do, paint that thing with a brush??
I can see some writing on the drivers side of the block, does it tie into anything? What's the date on the pad?

I don't know what the markings mean. Here is a rear view pic.The oil pan on the backside had pretty much no paint. The pad say's V0615XCD all my close up pics are terrible.

That makes sense with the back of the oil pan being bare - hard to paint that part when the bellhousing assy is attached!

Try using the (i think it's called) the macro setting on your camera, it usually is represented by a symbole of a flower on your camera control. It should allow you to get all the goodies up close!!

Sorry but I am real confused with this post. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Are you guys saying that Gm supplied this engine in the crate as shown or it was a new short or long block that came in the crate, then the accessories where added and it was returned to the crate unused??I was a GM Mechanic in the 70's and know how these came from GM in fact actually installed two of these exact motors in customers cars after I dressed it with the missing components from their blown engines.

This motor came just as you see it in the crate & just as the crate gives the part # 3965748 & then say's Engine Assembly. When the motor was taken out of the crate the whole bottom support system & mounting area built into the crate is the perfect cut-out for the motor w/ bellhousing.I bought this from a gentleman who worked for G.M & has had this for 35 years.
