Anyone ever see a factory 3 speed floor shift lever for a 67 SS396 Chevelle with bench? It appears to be the same as the 4 speed less the lockout "T" handle under the knob (assy manual shows it). I'm guessing knob is white with 3 speed pattern. My Warner HD 3 speed had what I thought was the factory lever: 4 speed style (with lockout handle) with chrome knob - must have been changed?
Need the non lockout lever....

Hi Dave:
Boy you don't look for the easy to find stuff my friend. I had a buddy in high school with a factory 3 spd floor bench in a 66 chevelle which is probally the same as a 67.
I did drive this car a few times and worked on it with him. I seem to remember the handle looking just like this early 64/65 mustang one with the two stud mount on the bottom and a real large threaded white knob which he could never get a hurst to fit on.My guess is the knob thread was the same as the 4spd shifter.
I cannot remember a pattern on the knob however.I see him still occasionally so will ask the next time we meet. I know the motor is still in his Dad's barn since I did some snowblower work for him last fall at his place and he was complaining about it being in the way for 20 years. I never seen a trans however. Does your picture look anything like this mustang one. That is close to what I recall. take care Joe

I thought so Dave but was not sure. The reason I posted the mustang handle was I bought a shifter for a guy here off E-bay about 18 months ago for his 3 speed mustang and also bid now what I know was what you need thinking it was 64 1/2 mustang. I did not win it however and it went to KY. I will ask Ronnie for the heck of it if he still has the one out of the 66.He has the motor so one never knows. I will also watch for you since these seem to get mixed in with mustang 3 speed shifters and you can see why.
take care Joe

Definitely Black knob with engraved white filled pattern, unusual chrome plated floor mounted box mounted to tunnel with unique boot. Lever is somewhat like described above but has one more bend, no lockout. Good luck if the box is missing, seldom seen part.

George:
What info do you have that the 3 speed bench shift knob should be black?? Thanks.
Joe:
Thanks for the great eBay links! Why didn't that pop up for me when I searched for 3 speed shift knob??!!
By the way, there is a repro on the way for the bench chrome shift hump. The Paddock (who never seems to have anything in stock anyway) lists it in there catalog but says they have not received their first shipment yet. I think they'll be all over the place in a couple months when the first boatload docks........

No problem Dave. I know up here the only black knob I have seen in the 65-67 chevs was in my trucks but they were 3/8 thread.Have lots of those if you need them.Ronnie's 66 3spd chevelle had a white one for sure and a much larger thread I just cannot remember if it had a pattern or plain. Not saying that they didnot install black ones in US cars or someone switched his between 66 and 76 when he got it. I wish now I didnot sell all of my 66 Literature since I know there was pictures of the 3spd set up in one of my dealer books.
We will find that handle first.Take care Joe
