I need a strong differential for my '55. I like the Strange 60 only because I have always thought Danas looked cool. Any advice on either company or type of rears?

I had Moser put together a complete 9" (spool, 35 spline, brakes, etc) for my Fairlane. Quite pleased with the quality and the price. Strange was a good bit more expensive for the same setup IIRC.
Agree that Danas have the cool factor, but they're also a bit heavier than a 9". If weight doesn't concern you, go with the Dana.

Scotty, just wait until you see Bill's '55. A Dana 60 is about the ONLY modification that could make it cooler... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif

Dan, you da man! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif (Had it out for a drive today too!)
I am leaning toward the Dana mainly for the cool factor. Strange admits on their site that the 60 is heavier but they tout it as being stronger too.

I don't know Moser's history, but with Strange your dealing with a race car/Muscle car Icon. Same people/company from "back in the day."

a dana sure would look cool, but the practical side of me says 9" a couple hours and you can change gears from fun to making time down the highway, a dropout of 4:56 and 3:23 sure sound good.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I say go with the Strange Dana. It'll look tough under that '55! That 9-inch will be plenty strong but it'll cost several hundred dollars more to equal the strength of that Dana. Sure, center sections are interchangeable, but a good one averages $1200 to $1700. Several of them laying around on the garage floor will put anyone in the poor house. I've researched that new Strange S60 Dana and it's really a neat piece. Right around $2K, depending on options, but very, very nice.

The S-60 is a little heavier (about 20-25 lbs they say) but I have to admit that I want that Dana cover peeking out from under there. I have been reading their online catalog for the past 30 minutes or so and http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif

I'll tell you what would really set off that Dana 60. If you could find one of those Moroso gold-anodized rear covers. Always thought they look great on a Dana. I remember growing up, if you happened to see a big Dana under a car, you that that guy wasn't messin' around!
