I just purchased a barn find 57 plymouth 2dr (i have no idea why http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif)just thought it was cool and was real cheap for a solid examlpe of one, its red with white side stripe like christine only she was a 58 i beleive..What cool things can u do to these cars ??I think its a 318?but iam not sure.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
It won't run like christine with that 318 in it. To be "period correct" you could build an old 392 hemi for it. If it were mine I would put a stroked 440 in it with an automatic over drive. It's gonna take a ton of torque to get that thing moving. Any pictures?

The 318 he's talking about would be the polyspherical cylinder head 318, which was seen in certains forms with dual four barrels. It is not the small block 318 of the late 60's and seventies.
Post a photo of the engine and we'll see if we can tell you what it is.

I dont think there's much weight difference between an old 318 poly engine and a 440 especially if you throw in a later aluminum torqueflite. 57 and 58 both weigh in around 3500 to 3600 or so. 400 B blocks can be made into 500 inchers too. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

That will make a REALLY COOL LOOKING HOTROD! If you were not so far from me I would be glad to take it off your hands!I have "KILLER 340 STROKER" that would get it moving easily. If it has the 318 engine it is the POLY as they call it and you can do some neat tricks to them! and there are some pretty neat intakes availiable from time to time. I happened to see an intake not long ago for one and it was SIX DUECES which certainly would look COOL under the hood.

The tulsa car should have been barn kept like this car it would have survived much better,I just can,t believe with all the mouse poop etc and critters that probally lived in this thing for the last 30 yrs or so that the interior is not all ate up or trashed!!!Hell even the headliner is mint!!I think ill try and get it running tomorrow and see what i have.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I know a lot about 57 plymounths Its not a 318 if it is a v8 its a 272 or a 301 I had one and droped in a 1960 413 and that thing was fast as hell But the stock brakes must be upgraded the stock ones sucked and was bad to stop this beast with a big motor If I were you I would frist upgrade the brakes to disk system then drop in a 413 It will fit right in a belive me it will be fast had this back in 68 and never had a 383 road runner beat me many tried

More infor on 57 plymouths the plaza and the savoy models v8s all were 272s the belvederes came with 301s the fury came with the 350 witch later became the 361 the 350and the 361 look the same as the 383 the 272 and the 301 looked the same as the 318 also 57 was the frist year for the 3 speed torquflite they also came with a 2 speed powerflite
mine was a belvedere and had the 301 with the torquflite
it was given to me because it had a rod knock
I picked up a 413 out of a 1960 imperial
I used motor mounts from a 1959 Dodge that came with a 361
the frame from the 57 plymouth and the 59 dodge were the same so the mount worked great I got dule exhast from a 59 dodge 383 every thing bloted right up with out no problems
the beast was fast in the day but the stock factory brakes could just not handle 100 mph+ stops
Still had a lot of fun with it as this was my first car and it did put a lot of muscel cars back in 68 to shame man the looks I got when I blew off a 383 road runners was pricless
Today the only thing I would change would be the brakes then you would have a good runner
love to build one today the same way that 413 was a good motor and a great match for a clean 57 plymouth and will fit right in with out much of a hassle

I had a older fella call me 2 nights ago. He is trying to figure out value of a 57 Plymouth 4 door 6 cyl car wth 22K miles that has not been started in 40 years. It was given to him by a relative that bought it new and parked it in the garage. He says the engine can be rotated by hand so he knows it is not seized up. I will look at it this weekend. Any guesses on value ?

Bill is right in the ball park 5 grand it would have to be clean and with out any rust These cars were known to rust look realy good on the top of the fender above the head lights It must be a plaza or a savoy as it has a flat head six belveders all came with v8s amd more chrome trim on the sides a 2 door belevder is worth more money the flat head also came with a 2 speed power flite still is a neat car http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifso the question is leave it stock OR build a sleeper http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif me I would pay about 3-3500 for a plaza or a savoy
the picture of the one I saw at alantic city back in 05 was a a plane jane savoy I did not look fast BUT with that 440 in it it was a sleeper and a fun car http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I spent quite some time drooling over that one also, but it was a '58. Not much difference though.

It's no scam. If you check out my thread on the 72 T/A you will see how good this stuff actually is. It is downright amazing how it removes rust without touching anything else.

steve I understand but as I have been reading they hope is to derust Miss Belveder and get it runing and back to the road I dont think that engine will ever turn over and think they are wasteing peoples money trying to bring it back from the dead I really do not think this car will ever come back but I might be worng this is going to get ineresting if it happens http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Getting it running is a totally different thing. I will say that those two emissions solenoids that I had were rusted solid inside and were shorted out. After I soaked them in the stuff for a few days, they freed up and worked like new. That was amazing. I would agree that trying to get a V8 running without disassembling it is a futile concept since all the gaskets will be gone. The major mechanical assemblies would have to be dissassembled and the parts soaked again and then reassembled.
I think heir goal is to stabilize/preserve the condition of the car, not to make it a complete running and driving car again.
