I was watching Court TV today and saw the trial & sentencing
phases of a case in which two men were being tried for
second degree murder in the death of a high school girl.
Seems the two men were drag racing down a busy street and
one went out of control and hit a car stopped at a traffic
light - killing the driver ( 18 year old girl ).

What bothered me was that one of the men was a kid ( 18 or
so ) when the crash happened. He was driving a Mustang with
an estimated 500hp engine under the hood. He lost control of
his car and hit another car at nearly 130mph. His defense claimed
that he couldn't ignore the tauntings of the other driver in
the drag race. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif That'too much power for a kid.

I'd like to know what you all think about the verdict( see the link ).
We've all raced at one time or another - but
doing 130mph down a street with other drivers on the road!
I hope this driver rots in prison for a long, long time.
Take it to the track........

I agree that they should do time. I also have raced in town, usually a block or two.....still not smart. But not at that speed. And who lets an 18 year old out with a car unsupervised with 500HP??? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif That is too much for that young of an age. .....Like you said take it to the strip, it's a lot more fun anyways. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

When I was a kid street racing was the thing. Every night you would ride around looking for competition. You ran 4.88's or 5.13's because most of the races were stop light to stop light. Rarely did you hit third gear. If you hit 70 mph you were flying! The congestion and traffic that exists today was nonexistent back then.
The big races were run on connecting highway, the conduit or past the park lands south of Pizza City and the Bow Wow. These roads were either temporarily blocked or totally deserted.
Today anyone driving at that rate of speed on a busy public road is a madman and deserves lengthy jail time and worse. Unfortunately in today's blameless society youngsters fail to contemplate the consequences of their actions and wind up in situations such as this.

Thats a 2 year old case. The younger driver got 5 years, and the other got 6. I thought it was too short. One high school girl is dead, and the other is burned bad, with many surgeries to come. I thought 10 yrs would be fair. This also wasn't the 1st time the older driver killed someone with his car.

Bill,

What ever happened to personal accountability? I have to say
that as a youngster I was always to consider the consequences
of your actions. If my daughter was one of the ones in that
car, I can assure you neither one of those two a-holes would
have made it to court in one piece. That's my point about
accountability. Each blamed the other for the race and one
girl is dead and another horrible disfigured for life.

Now you inform us that the older guy ( with the Viper ) was
possibly involved in another fatal accident. Where are the
families of these two girls? Somebody needs to pay that
moron a visit.......

What is wrong with his PARENT!! To let him loose with that type of car. I have Insureds come in looking at small Jeeps for their kids first car. I asked them. "What do they have against your kid!!!" I also asked them "Are you stupid"

Did'nt Hulk Hogans snotty kid wipe out his exotic car. He hurt the other kid that was in the car and i believe he was 16 at the time driving some 100k car. I saw him and his dad on some drifting show, and his kid and his friends were raving on how good a driver he is yet he wiped out in every race. And of coarse he is just awesome http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif. This 16 yr old kid should not be driving 100k+ cars i don't care how much money he has or who's kid he is. Not that hulk Hogan is known for his giant brain.

Sad story..

My bro and I were talking the other day about what the best wheels for kids was..
We came to the conclusion that RWD Chevy Impalas, Pickups and similar vehicles are safe, reliable also cheaper to insure and repair...plus the gas consumption of these beasts will help the kids think twice everytime they 'need' to drive!.
