Hi Bruce,
I found this car in the Auto Trader on Saturday February 23,2008. Its a 1969 Nova SS 396/375(real),black on black(should have bench, which is on its way),auto on the colunm, original engine, BT 12 bolt rearend, AM/FM radio. I have all of the owner history, some original registrations, misc. paperwork, owner manual and the protecto plate. The motor, trans and rearend have been recently rebuilt. The body appears to have all of the original panels and is super straight and the paint is very nice with a few flaws.

Here's the story and why this car is special to me. This car was bought new from Berglund Chevrolet in Ashville, New York. It was than sold to a guy in Erie, Pa ( My home town !!!) in 1972 who owned it till 1996. He than sold it to another guy in Erie who owned it till 2000. That guy took the car to the Canfield, Ohio swapmeet. The car was sold to a close friend of mine that now lives in Ca. where I now live.My friend had it shipped to Ca.and I saw the car a few times. He than sold it in 2000/2001 to a guy in Ca. That was the last time we saw of the car till now.

The reason this car is special to me is that in November 1969 I was 19yrs old and order a new 1970 Nova SS 396/375, green on black, benchseat, auto on the colunm. My old Nova is in Erie,Pa., I've seen it, know the owner(he's owned it for over 30 yrs.), and i've been trying to buy it for the last 15 yrs. with no luck. So now I have the next best thing with this car that spent 28 yrs in Erie,Pa, my home town right where my 1970 Nova is today.

If anyone has any info on Berglund Chevrolet, knows of this car as it was raced at Norwalk (when ???) please contact me.

Thanks again Bruce,

Dave,

You're welcome http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif Hope George comes up with some good info for you. Nice car!

And you know what will undoubtedly happen......now that you have this one, the guy in Erie will call you in the next couple weeks or months and finally decide to cut loose with your old car http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif Murphy's Law!

Bill,
I have the phone#(I hope) for the second owner that bought the car in 1972 and owned it till 1996. I hope to talk to him this weekend. I'm not sure when the car was raced and if at any other drag strips. The car still has the frame connectors and driveshaft loop in it. I hope to know alot more after I talk to the previous owner. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks,

Thanks Bruce,
This is the 1970 Nova SS 396/375 I ordered new when I was 19 years old. I did end up lowering the car after the balljoints started to rip through the upper A-frames with only 2300 miles on the car.

I am in fact working on more info for Dave. Nova came out of Berglund Ashville/Jamestown NY, same selling dealer of my '67 435 Corvette. They sold some hi-po stuff and exist today as Shults Chevrolet (nothing left, I tried long ago). Bruce Smith, attorney in Akron area is the guy who bought it at Canfield (330-821-1430) from the Erie guy, Haines. I am trying for some earlier history on the car.

Looks mean! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Brings back lots of memories. A highschool class mate came back from the Navy and bought a '68 L-78/M-22 Chevelle. That car didn't last long. Didn't stand up well to a 48" Oak Tree at the edge of the road on a foggy night. Killed two of the three guys in the car and the owner/driver lost a leg in the accident.
Before he was back on his feet (no pun intended), he had ordered a '69 L-78 M-40 Nova. He took delivery before he could drive again so I spent a ton of time behind the wheel for him. Low option car with buckets but no console; F. Green with black guts. This car looks VERY similar.
We've tried to track that car but are pretty well convinced it's now in a cube. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Driving an L-78 Nova makes you grin a lot! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There's been a lot of banter about the "back in the day" look vrs the stock look, and I think part of the reason there's kind of a raw edge to the issue, is that a lot of us "geezers" lived the day. The cars, and the times, and the history at those moments have special meaning to a lot of us. It really isn't something that you can actually convey in a discussion. Mr.Cumby, I think you (we) should change the "we get it" to "you had to be there to understand". BTW very cool deuce. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Don't worry too much about that happening as Dave could buy all of his and my old cars back. Not like some of us struggling to afford lugnuts. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

Wow! Slap a set of cragars on it and it looks just like my Nova from back in the day. I love the white pinstripe too.

You old geezers are killing me! I guess since I only lived/participated at the tail end of the 'craze' it's not ingrained into me http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif I actually like a few day 2 mods, but the key word is 'few' - ie; I can't think of a nicer wheel than a Cragar SS, maybe even with some white letter tires....

To All,
Thanks for your comments and interest in the new Nova and my original 1970 Nova SS in its "Day 2" look. It was a wild ride with that suspension. A special thanks to Xplantdad/Bruce for posting the pics and to CamaroJoe for the 2 Berglund Chevrolet trunklid emblems. The 1 is NOS and will make a great addition to the car and its origin.
Thanks again,
