For awhile now I have been reading posts regarding Tastykakes. They are evidently a magical food that makes sellers give good deals and buyers spend extra money. Plus, from some of the posts I've read, all it takes to close a deal for some folks is to bring the Tasykakes (or beer, but I digress http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif).

So being the curious type and not having seen Tastykakes lining the shelves of our local CA markets, I just had to find out WTF is a freakin' Tastykakehttp://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif??.

Evidently not only are they a regional East coast delicacy, (particularly prized in the Philly, PA and surrounding areas), the company also offers seasonal variations of their alluring products http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif.

So, here are a couple of websites to understand more about this Right coast delicacy and maybe place an order (I know I am http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif) so you, too, may enjoy this mystical confection:

I've never tried any myself but it sounds like we should all have a box of these on hand to sway prospective sellers...sure helps me finally understand why I got beat on a few deals in the past too?!.

I don't think they're available here so is anyone willing to swap for Canadian Bacon or perhaps some of our good Beer?.

And if you ever have the opportunity, have BBBenny tell you about another local treasure; Goods Potato Chips! His description is priceless! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Although I haven't bought any lately, I grew up on a steady diet of butterscotch krimpets http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif There may indeed be a very direct correlation to this phoenomenon and the way I look as an adult. There was a time when you could only get them in this area but I think distribution is much wider now. I don't know if it is actually the case but the word was at one time, TastyKake delivery guys owned their routes and delivery trucks and did pretty well.

Darren started that TastyKake thing with some of the other midwesterners following. We were NOT allowed to come into the Chicago area without them. It was our admission to Vettefest and a couple nites out with the boys and it even helped Benny win all the marbles with that stunning 69 BB nova of his at last years Vettefest. I believe with enough TastyKakes you could have Darren's killer lookin L78 camaro or Stefano's dark blue 1970 SS, BB nova. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif Its a Philly thing along with cheesesteaks, scrapple, hoagies and the best soft pretzels on earth. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Mine is a Wit and Wiz. As far as the Kakes go, it's Cream filled coffee kakes all the way and the chocolate chip bars. Not too mention the eclair pies and the peanut butter Kandy Kakes. I know what it costs to send a whole big box out to AZ! Next day nonetheless. MMMMMM you guys out west and on the CA coast don't know what you are missing. I had to rub it in a little more.... mmmm Tastey Kakes! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Not too metion Goods Potato Chips(the blue bag) and Grandma Utz's Barbecue and Regular and Snyders of Hanover sourdough pretzels with http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif ofcourse.

Talk about memories!!! My grandma, God Bless her soul, worked at Tastykake for over 30 years...she always showed off her jewelry that she was rewarded from the company for each fifth aniversary.
My family went to her house every Sunday while growing up and my sister and brother and I ran to the fridge to fight over the Tastykakes.
Grandma always had literally dozens of 'rejected' Tastykakes...where the wrappers went on crooked...or the cream went on each cake crooked...hehehe...it did not matter to a 10 year old kid!!!!

I still love the banana creamies...although they are hard to find sometimes!!!

Butterscotch Krimpets & Peanutbutter Kandycakes!! Yum-Yum! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Can-I-Have-It.gif

When we first moved to western NC 5 years ago, they had a few
Tastykake verients at the local Walmart. They stopped selling
them about two years ago. My kids were crushed.

Indeed - Tastykakes are a Philly area phenomenon! Much like
cheese steaks and hoagies and Franks soda and soft pretzels and ............. GOD - I miss living there. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Come on guys! Amoroso rolls !! I concede to the more
knowledgeable folks here on COPO and related topics, but
Italian bread. What's-a-matta-you. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif

Philly is world famous for their "authentic" Italian bread and
rolls. No self respecting cheese steak or hoagie would be
caught dead in an Amoroso roll. Sarcones are probably the
best rolls in all of Philly. Anyone that goes to Philly
knows what I'm referring to here. I can't leave Philly
each week without having at least one cheese steak or hoagie
and let's not forget the soft pretzels... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif

Having lived in the Philly area for years, I have become accustomed to many of their different foods. I love a cheesesteak with some cheese fries and have gotten used to the Herr's chips. (Wise are much better) TastyKake's are great - but PLEASE - Amoroso rolls are horrible. After growing up on NY Italian bread, that soft half cooked Amoroso roll just doesn't cut it!

One of these days I'll be making a trip to Latrobe and by golly I'm going to load up on Tastykakes (and hoagies and cheesesteaks and scrapple and and cold whole milk!).

Maybe the site should approach the company to be a contributing sponsor. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif They certainly get enough print and the Tastykake logo would look good on a T-shirt. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It's true!.

After concerns of being plundered by crooked postal or customs agents, the shipment of fresh TastyKakes sent by site member sc69sam has safely arrived in Canada and various samples being enjoyed by unknowing Canadians at this very moment!.

Although these tasty snacks have been experienced by Canadians while in the USA, this is the first known case of genuine TastyKakes being sucessfuly shipped over the border and actually consumed on Canadian soil!.

I met some members at the Maple Grove swap meet this weekend and when asked where the Kakes were, I was offered a Fig Newton instead! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

The case of TastyKakes Sam sent hit bottom last night.
