Makes the unrestored '65 396ci wagon that sold here 6ish months ago seems like a BARGAN!

Wow, that is just the coolest. No comparison to a 396/325 wagon IMO. Reminds me of that '62 409/409hp BelAir wagon that was found recently.

That's gotta be the 66 wagon that belonged to Dick Fox. He used to race it as a pure stock at Osceola Dragway way back when. He only ran it hard enough to just barely win. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. That car was for sale here asking $6000 back in the mid 70's before he moved to Arizona, I believe. If you look at the paperwork, you'll see it was sold new in Niles, Michigan, about 10 miles north of South Bend.

You're right about that. The seller missed blurring out the name Richard Fox from the picture of protecto plate. Incredible car..I wonder why it has shallow rims. All hi-perf cars or station wagons I have seen up to now have had the deep dish.

Fox owned a gas station back then, in fact the US23 address is where his station was. He used to have like H or L70 Prowler tires on it when he raced the car. Probably just swapped them out for something with better tread. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

------Have to laugh as the air-cleaner top says 425 not 450. Even though there were 450hp Corvettes early in the 66 model year I never heard of a 450hp full size 66 Chev. Paperwork even says 425!!!
------Is that the same Dick Fox that used to be at alot of the Illinois swapmeets with die-cast models???.........Bill S

paperwork also lists 425 hp so somebody just screwed up the description.

Agreed Bill... You've been around these cars longer than I have... must be a super early '66 wagon for a 450hp L72... check the vin. Valid point Bill... agreed.

Cool wagon. It is the Fox car, I viewed the car and the docs when the owner had it at the Scottsdale Kruse auction this past January. Car is legit with obvious signs of being an old drag car. Claimed original paint but my paint gauge didn't like some of it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The seller is the son of the fellow who bought it from Fox. Don't know what makes it a "1-owner" car? The Kruse folks had his head all screwed up telling him it was worth $250k to get the consignment. I was the high bidder at $70k. In fact, I think I may have been the only bidder - those of you who go to Kruse auctions know what I am talking about! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Regardless, very cool piece. IMHO, the 70k+10 points I bid was a pretty generous bid? 77k for a "multi-family" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (2 door is a single, 4 door is a duplex, so a wagon has to be a multi-fam??)

I came to my senses after I remembered I just sold my 63 427T/425HP R Code Galaxie cop car with a 4 speed, in original paint, original exhaust, never touched car that was showroom for less money...supposedly it was one of 4 built.

Be interesting to see what the wagon does.

-----Thanks John. I pretty much figured it wasnt the other "Dick" as the paperwork showed this Fox living in northwest Indiana back then........Bill S

from the ad; "This 1966 Bel Air Wagon was sold to Len Cormier of Cormier Chevrolet back in 1981. The original owner personally brought the vehicle to the Dealership and sold it directly to Len. This vehicle has been in the dealer inventory ever since"

Could be still titled in name of original owner? Maybe that's the reason for the one owner claim. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

$six digits is kinda high. JMHO

It's on it's way to Canada. It will be joining more '66 L72's along with a documented '66 L72 4 door Biscayne. Not many of those around either!
