Original Oil Canister Stencil??

I'm looking for an Original GM Oil Canister (58-67) stencil or an exact reproduction. Does anyone make them? Does anyone have them? Any information is much appreciated.

I thought that they were silk screened but that one looks like it was done with a pad stamp... maybe it is just the quality of the photo...
BTW someone makes a sticker but I do not know how correct it is... I guess someone needs to make a silk screen and start restoring them correctly... hmmmm

I see the sticker is not anywhere close to being correct... You would think that they would do it right...

Yes the original was a silk screen. I was hoping that someone would have some type of stencil though. I have the sticker and have sold a few nicely restored canisters with the sticker, but it is a bit different.

Any other help is appreciated.

Yea I saw those. I have a few here that either do not have the silk screen or are media blasted. I have been restoring them with the sticker. I was just curious if I could get a stencil to restore them more accurately. The canister I pictured above is a real nice original piece. The canisters I have restored with the stickers are a bit off.

Does anyone know what is involved in a silk screen process? Do you need a press?

No you can usually buy all the stuff at Michaels or Hobby lobby... I did some screen printing in art classes in college.
You take the image you want and tranfer it to acetate then lay it on the emulsion covered screen, expose it to light then wash the screen with water to remove the unexposed areas, then put your paint on the screen and squeegee it on... really pretty simple, I am going to do one for my 68 GTO Air cleaner.

The screen is in a wooden frame and because it is flexible it will conform to the curve of the canister... the sqeegee is also flexible so it will "curve" to the canister as well.

The photo at the top looks like the screen either moved or was OLD and worn out.

These filter hsgs were printed using a rubber stamp. Silk screening would be too difficult to manage on a arced surface. The stamp at the plant making these would have been curved to match the hsg. A rubber stamp co. could make the stamp but more than likely they would make the stamp flat. For small runs or one at a time jobs just ink the stamp and roll the hsg. A mask could be made and the white sprayed on but the stamp process makes it more like the original look. One thing I have found tring to find old fonts is they do not exist in this computer world and it's difficult to have someone remake them so sometimes you have to do with a font thats close.
