This past weekend I did a little car trading. My '68 funnycar now has a new home up North, while the LS-6 Chevelle known as Red Alert has a new home in Alton, MO. And yes..the "old girl" will be back on the track where she belongs.

------Im as pleased as I can be with the new owners. Tom and family seem committed to get her back in tip top shape as I feel I had her back in the 90s. It would fair to say that Red Alert was also nicely taken care of and improved by Andy. There was only one "fly" in the ointment the last couple of years but thankfully he didnt completely destroy Bobs old car. Congratulations are definetly in order........Bill S...."Ol Red"

YES... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Plans are to have it at the Musclecar Reunion the end of May, maybe York, the Gibb show and of course the SCR.

Because show/race season is upon us, and to give us time to decide for sure how we want the car, we will not be making many changes right now.

It took alot of good folks to get all of the details worked out, which we really appreciate. Thanks everyone. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

If anyone has any info or pics of RE from back in the day, please share. Bob Hamilton and family raced in and around the NJ area, mostly NHRA, in the hotly contested SS/DA class until the mid '70s, at which time they moved to the Bradenton, FL area. Bob has since passed away, but son Robert Hamilton, JR is supposed to be living in the NE someone. If anyone knows him, or other family members, we would love to speak top them.

I remember reading this a few years ago but forget so can someone please clarify;
Was the car's nose sheetmetal always a '70 and only the models kits got updated styling like the '72 style shown above?. Interesting the '72 nosed model kit shown still has '70 fenders..
Did the models kits w/ updated noses have the 71/72 style rear bumpers too?.

The real car has always retained its original sheetmetal and other hardware. Even the lettering is original.

I was told the AMT model had a '72 frontend because that is what the mold was for, a 1972 Chevelle.

------When AMT approached Bob about doing his car it was creaping up to 1972 opening day and they had already changed their molds over from the 70 style. They still wanted to do the car as it was such an exciting car both operationally and graphically and Bob thought that the PR couldnt hurt him so he agreed and the rest is history. Red Alert was an all time sales leader. It took the "Dukes of Hazard" Charger (still their all-time sales leader, I think) many more years to eclipse Red Alerts sales in just its four year run.
------I should clear up a slight mis-cue on my part and say that Mike Guarise who bought Red Alert from me was not the "fly" mentioned above. Mike and I have always gotten along well and he treated old Red with kid gloves in my opinion.......Bill S

There couldn't be a better home for this historical Chevy; Congrats go to the Clary family!

I also can't wait to see this one lined up against Mr. Barnhardt's ZL1 at SCR! That will be a priceless sight to see.

I used to be an avid model builder up until I got my learners permit. Then life took a surreal change. Now I just go to a few local Model builders shows during the wintertime on Sundays to see them.
In 1973,AMT also produced a larger packaged "Red Alert Drag Team" resin kit that consisted of Red Alert,a 72 Chevy Van & open trailer w/pit tools.I built this kit three different times as my sisters kept destroying it when we would fight as kids.I'm still getting even...
This scarce kit can be found, but be prepared to pay as it's purely traded as a collectors item today when sealed in the cellophane, and if opened it's usually sought after for it's individual parts. You can pay 100's of dollars for the "Drag Team" kit alone.I would love to see this kit reissued now,as I don't think it ever was in the past & that is if this new company that bought AMT still has the tooling.
The Box art alone is was really eye catching to anyone who grew up in that era.

------Rick,,,There is even a more rare edition of that three-way Red Alert model. That one was sold at the same retail price as the car alone as a gift back to the public for twenty-five years of business on AMTs 25th anniversary. You can tell one when you see it as the bottom of the inside box has a black silkscreened twenty-fifth anniversary emblem. Even I have only seen one of them and it wasnt for sale.......Bill S

Cool car. Hard to beat a cranberry red/blk chevelle. Pretty much the 70 "poster child" for chevy high performance. Add the race history and it don't get much better than that. Congrats. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Larry, with the weight of the car it can go D/SA or E/SA with a 402 combo. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif There it could be very competive.

Tom,
One of the members of this board is associated with Englishtown Raceway. Just a suggestion on finding a little more information, Andrew H. could have access to some information and pictures of this car in action? Just a thought you may have already checked, but just wanted to mention? Neat car with a neat history.

I have one of the AMT models, but if anyone out there runs across others, please pick it up for me. Also, am looking for a pair of Motor Wheel Spyders for the rear.
