Last weekend Jody traveled to pick up his newest classic and what a classic car it is. And today I get the privledge of showing it to the rest of the world. I have been very fortunate in my life to have met some very special people...such as Jody, that play a significant role in my life. Jody is a true friend, a role model and a great ambassador to our sport. Jody congrats on finding such a rare and special car.

A true original 87K mile, one repaint, all numbers matching...documented L79. Stunning!

Jody throws me the keys and away we go....What a great driving car....nice and tight no rattles. Noting like an all original unmolested car.

I sure gave the Nova a new meaning to "Tight Sqeeze"....though surprisingly roomy

"On the Road Again"...driving the Chevy II..."On the Road Again"

All I can say is "Priceless" Jody and I could have filmed a commercial with these....laughter and excitement through every gear. Now this is what it`s all about! These Memmories...are Priceless! This is one mightly small block!

Another priceless moment I wanted to share with everyone and show Jody`s generousity. Jody had this picture made as a gift to give his special friend Greg for helping him put together the Blue L72 Caprice.

This is awesome....here is Jody and Greg in Circa.... June of 1965....putting together this 1966 L72 Big Car at Detroit`s assembly line.

How do you guys keep finding these great cars? Anyone have an idea how many L79's were standard Nova's compared to Super Sports? Talk about a sleeper http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

What a great car! They built fewer than 1800 L79 Nova Sport Coupes in 1966, so it's way rarer than the L79 Super Sport. Just for info, the 4 speed tranny would also have been an option. Chevy II L79's came standard with a 3 speed on the column. There were no L79 automatics. Does it have the F40 HD suspension? Many didn't. It would also have been an option.

5481 total L79 Chevy II's were built in the U.S. in 1966. 3547 were Super Sports, approx. 200 two door sedans, and a few wagons. Leaves just under 1800 Sport Coupes like this beauty.

There were 195 L79 Chevy II's built in Canada, of which approx 90-100 were SS's. They were also 63 Acadian L79s built by GM Canada.

John,

Great info...Thanks. Yes... Jody`s car is eqiupped with the F40 HD Suspension...I read it myself on the Bill of Sale.

So this would make 4 options....4 speed tranny, F40 HD suspension , tinted front windshield and push button radio.

That damn old fart has been around forever....I remember him running a S/G Firebird at the Grove all the time. He may just know a thing or two about chassis set-up. Actually 5 options....the L79 engine itself was an option....the 2 bbl 283 would have been the standard engine on an 8 cylinder Nova. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

You're right, Bill. Missed the big option that makes it what it is. The L79 engine was a 198.00 option. The 4 speed added another $184.00. These were big dollar options for a Chevy II in 1966, especially when you consider the low cost of other extras...like upgrading to the F40 HD suspension for $4.95!!

Now, from the really anal Chevy II L79 department, the air cleaner lid should be rotated 180 degrees. If you check the indentations on the top, you'll find there isn't one over one of the snorkels (some of the repop makers didn't notice this and put them all the way around). This side of the lid should face the drivers side. Don't ask me why there is an indentation missing or who decided which side it should face, because I don't know. I think an original 1966 factory photo showed it this way, so that must be correct, right? Lots of guys just put the best looking side of the lid to the front, which is just fine, too.

These air cleaners had a seam in each snorkel and I believe for best appearance this side should be pointing to the fire wall. However, some of these tops got out the door with the seam on opposite sides and it appears this one might be that way but I can't tell for sure from the pictures.

Great looking car and the ultimate sleeper!

Ron,

Lombard is a Suburb of Chicago....Directly west of Chicago, approx 28 miles out. Every Saturday night there is a car show/cruise and us locals get together....very nice new downtown area, great food and fun....kind of a mini Pavillions for us Midwest folks. Hope you can join us this summer. Let me know when your in town.

I`m not touching that line about being an old fart with a 10 foot pole but I remember a young Jody who used to work for Ron Neal during the day and tig weld for (maybe) $10.00 an hour in a little garage behind his house in Wheeling...Now those were the good old days.
