I cannot explain why, but of all the national events held at Carlisle {Ford, Chrysler, etc} GM is by far the worst. The turnout for the GM marks beside Camaro is pathetic. I am disapointed more and more every year..BKH http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Brian, Apparently you are correct. I've heard year after year that the ACES Chevelle regional event is always the same weekend or therabouts. Nobody can mediate or negotiate a plan where as the high quality Chevelles can support G.M. Carlisle. I'm not in the know as to why the Novas, Buicks, pontiacs etc etc dont support the G.M. Carlisle event.
Thanks to the American Camaro Assoc there is a good turnout of Camaros. This is also the only show in the country that runs a top notch restoration judging, aka LEGENDS. I'd also be remiss if I didnt mention Steve Shaugers bunch judging Survivor "VINTAGE" Camaros.
Anyway we can only hope that G.M. Carlisle gets better, bigger, but with $4.00 per gal gas looming, we'll be lucky to maintain the mediocre turnout we already have......

With the Chevelle show established in Maryland, not much in the Chevelle world shows up that's for sure. Once years ago, other marks had "mini-nats" during GM. The Novas did it and had a good turnout, BUT you would be lucky to see ten Novas today. The Ford guys make the GM guys look bad. There will be more Merkurs than Buick, Olds and Pontiac combined. The Camaro show field is the ONLY thing keeping that show afloat. Its a dirty fithy dust bowl with freaky summer storms that blow in. It is not on my must do list...BKH http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

I went last year for the first time, was not impressed.
And for sure the Camaro's are the only strong point of that show.

The Nova Club held a mini-nats there the first or second year, actually took home the 'Club Participation' award! However, the Nova club prefers a smaller, more intimate venue on the grounds of a hotel - as it fosters the 'family' atmosphere that has proved successful for the last 27 years! (How many single marque car clubs can boast about that type of longevity?!) It's also a busy time of year, there are a lot of shows trying to snag your car.

I like going to the Camaro Nationals - with a few other GM brands tagging along! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If all you're looking for is visual satisfaction disregarding accomplishments or history, the Bud Girls are usually there.....all 87lbs of them. But nobody's going to be asking them for an autograph in 40 years.

I have to agree that the turnout at the GM show was not that spectactular last year. The first year I went, they had the Nova club participate and it was awsome to see that many Novas and Camaros in one spot! The Camaros are great and also the Chevelles, but Novas tend to be somewhat of an uncommon place at shows. What gives??? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Darren, You will have a blast at Carlisle. If you are in to Camaros this is the place to be. This show pulls around 700 camaros in from everywhere. The people are great and and the cars are outstanding as well. This is more of a car event/show rather than a vendor-swap meet. There are still plenty of vendors but not nearly the draw of spring and fall meets (Its GM only which limits vendors). I have never been much of a swap meet person, I rather utilize connections or the internet for purchasing rare or hard to find parts.

Regarding the other brands not being as involved; well all it takes is a little commitment on their part. Its a great venue with lot of potential, which the ACA(Camaro Nationals) has taken advantage of and is growing.

Looking forward to hooking up... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I've only gone to a few of the GM nationals, the abundance of Camaros is the only salvation for the event. Corvette weekend in August has always been great (if you can handle the heat) and I have not missed one in years. My friend said this years Ford event was a big flop with a lite attendance, cars were mostly all newer generation Mustangs. I think gas $$$ will keep some attendance down this year.

I took my L78 Camaro SS convertible to the first GM nationals show. I had purchased the car from Charlie and sent it to Bob Harris to re-restore. It was a great event, lots of vendors, lots of different makes, a wonderful show.
That's where I met Brian Henderson, I had a great time talking with him about his yellow Yenko Camaro, wish I had bought it then.
I have heard that the show has not been as good since the initial event, and haven't been back, but I continue to go to the Corvettes @ Carlisle show, will be there again this year.

Was your L78 Rag a burgundy color?

I think the Camaro portion of the show has gotten better, while the other makes have dropped off a bit. The Nova club held a mini-nationals at the first GM show, and had an excellent showing (even a debuted a certain gobi beige Yenko Deuce! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif ), but there are a lot of shows competing for the same cars!

You could say that... some idiot was trying to take it off an open trailer by himself and forgot he didn't have it in gear when he removed the last axle strap... rolled right off the trailer (without any ramps) and down the hill about 75 yards right into my car. I sold it the next day as-is and bought a 69 SS396 El Camino to drive home. I have no idea where it ever ended up.

Yeah. We're square.. Just a long day. I booked my flight thru Expedia. They sent my confirmation a few days before the trip and I used that as a reference. When Sam dropped me at the airport I thought I was an hour early. I then found out I was late cause the flight departure time changed. I was stuck on the wait list for 3 flights that were already over booked so I booked a flight home with another carrier. According to United the flight time changed a long time ago but Expedia never updated my itenerary. I had them on the phone for a while and they finally refunded me $ for the mix up. It was a mistake but they stepped up and took care of me. Nice customer service I say. I'll have no problem using them in the future. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Brought my customers Red/Black 1970 Z28 for Bowtie, they said if they knew how nice it was they would have put it into Legends, anyway it scored 982. My customer was happy did the car 2 years ago. Great show, great cars but the Carlisle show and vendors was a ghost town !

If it wasn't for the guys from the site and looking at some of the fine restorations that are there it would be a bust! No matter what we can always learn something there. John Karvonen and his friend Dave Valentin set me straight on some good info. Of course Brian H., Steve Shauger and Bob Harris and Craig from Camaro Specialities always add some good insite. I was also glad to have met Rick Hoffmeister out there. I actually had a real good time this year. I learned some key things from a couple guys. Darren added alot to the fun. We always pick on BBBenny! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Virtually every time I use Expedia there is a problem. Coming back from Power Tour I could not print boarding passes for one flight on United because it was thru Expedia. They also didn't tell me the United flight was really a Northwest flight until I was on the phone for a hour. I avoid them when possible but sometimes they have the only seats on the flight you want.

I try to avoid airports and airlines whenever possible. I would rather drive, even to Europe. I just feel like I have to vomit whenever I think about flying.

On my Air Tran non stop from Baltimore to Seattle.....I had one bag to check. The woman at the counter has the printer spit out the label which is applied around a bag handle, and the small portion goes in the boarding pass jacket/folder they hand you.

Turns out she punched up another last name that started with same SHAR of mine, but was different. I arrive in Seattle and luggage went to Tampa. I'm still awaiting its delivery to my house.

In the future I will actually LOOK and READ those small baggage claims stickers !!!!!!!!!!!

I did like the Air Tran non stop flight even though it departed 1 1/4 hr late (weather related). No checked baggage extra charge (flown to a different city), complmentary soda, and I booked direct with air line

Bruce, et al,

You guys get the humor...you always do.

Flying is a bitch. Why?...there is plenty of blame to go around. I will tell you this, if any of my Supercar site buddies are EVER on one of my flights, it will be first class and a tour of the cockpit. What the Hell, I might even let you fly the jet!!!

Thanks for flying US Airways...we REALLY do care...regardless of how it seems.

Take care,

Mark

You know damn well you can't let anyone in the cockpit or you'd lose your job. But I DO feel for the pilot's agony. They get searched and inspected the same as a passenger. But they also have a crash axe in the cockpit, and..............if they really wanted to crash the plane all they have to do is lean forward. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Sorry I didn't get to meet up with any of you guys. I was there from about 8:30 Saturday morning until a little after 5 when I headed home. I tried to hang around my car but there's too much to see and I kept finding myself walking around looking at stuff. I was dreading the 2-1/2 hour drive with the car but it wasn't too bad other than a broken exhaust hanger after hitting a high spot on the turnpike! I had to avoid some serious roadkill as well. Friday night must not be the night to be a deer on the tpk! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I was there all day Saturday from 8:30 to 5:15. There was a much bigger crowd of cars on Saturday. It's a great show with an awesome variety of GM cars to look at. I think they have a few too many classes of Camaros which made it confusing for a lot of people and the cars weren't organized as well as they could have been. A lot of people were commenting that they didn't know if they were in the right area and there wasn't much of a pattern to the groupings. I think I got around 14.5 mpg for the trip out and back so I can't complain!

Well for starters I would like to congradulate Kenny on his second year through the Legend Series and taking his 69 L-78 Camaro from 98.3% to 99.9% http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Second I thank Kenny for his trust in me in taking his car to the Show so he could spend time with his son playing Little League.
And Lastly, I want to Thank Kenny for a BIG eye opener. To becareful of the a-holes that we sometimes call friends. This so called "friend" of Ken's wanted to look at some tires that he wanted to sell and this "friend" was just pedaling them for Ken and that is fine. But when this so called "friend" leaves these tires in the middle of a field with out so much as a F-ing phone call to let me know that he was to busy doing donuts in the lawn then to call me and tell me to come get the tires back or bring them back to me. Thank god for good friends like C. White for calling me to tell me where he left them and I could catch up to J. Dottier to retrieve them. I asked Jeff he was asked to watch them and if he even knew who's they were and with no surprise he had no idea. I wouldn't trust this person now with so much as a bucket of S@*t to watch for me. I apoligize to the nice folks that had to here me rant, i just had to get that off my chest. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif
