Could it have been a prototype the co made up to show to Gibb as a sales pitch like they do ink pens etc ?

Nope, just a made up fob. Look at his other auctions.

The seller sold a royal pontiac one a week ago for around 100.00. he will get in trouble all too soon when he keeps coming up with more rare finds.

Are you saying those are all made up? If I bought a bunch of these and planned to sell them I would pick out the obvious good ones to sell first too. There sure are alot of 9.99 ones to be making a hge profit.

The way I heard that the guy selling the key chains bought out what was left from the original person who would supply all the dealerships with these in the early years and these are what was left over when he went out of buisness. I bought the ones he had from Karen Chevrolet I can tell you they were original because my dad worked there and you can tell that the leather they are made out is reall old just were never given out. This is what I can tell from the Karen ones and also the Nickey one that I got from the guy even can see where there are some sm,all cracks even though they look new.

They aren't real. Period. They might be 30 year old leather fobs, but the stuff printed on them was just put there, like yesterday. Look at the one Jeff just posted... Do you people honestly believe that GM put out fobs with the Camaro logo on one side and Central Office Production Order on the other? Oh, and the phone number? 9561 of course. The Nickey, Fred Gibb, Smokey Yunick, Royal Pontiac, etc. ones are just as made up. C'mon people... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I know you want them to be real, but they simply aren't. End of story.

Thats exactly what I'm saying. If he bought a box of 1000's of blank ones and printed them up, the 9.99 ones are making a profit too.

If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is...
Winners of these seem to be very satisfied with the final product & price they each paid,as not one has left any negative feedback against the seller warning potential bidders about this issue,or any other.
No bitter bidders? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I agree with Joe, these things are flat out BOGUS!! It is pretty obvious by looking at them. They are all "cookie cutter" style fobs, all look the same with the exception of the wording...
If the buyers are happy with them, then what the hey!! There is an a$$ for every seat... Joey is right, they are flat our phoneys. I was super excited when the very first Nickey one went up for auction about 7-8 months ago. I think it did like $150.00. I e-mailed him and asked if he had another one. He said that he had only three and if I wanted one I had better grab one. He also told me a story about buying a collection from a guy that had thousands of key chains. Well I was suspicious of the guys story and not only did he sell the next three, he sold about 10 more. I just e-mailed him the other day asking obout the Nickey ones and he said:
Dear leddzepplin,
Frank, I believe I have 3 or 4 more--

This guy is one of those people who are out right decieving buyers. By the way, about 8 months ago when that first Nickey one was for sale he had other REAL key chains mixed in the ones that are similar to the COPO & Fred Gibb ones shown. They were nothing like those in style though.

As was I... although i didn't see them until a month or so ago. Actually by chance, with less than 2 min to go... I placed a $35 winning bid on a Nickey one (one of the more authentic looking ones) and shortly thereafter discovered his other auctions and realized they were fakes. I asked him directly if they were real and got an e mail similar to the reply you got. I never sent payment and never heard another word from the guy. I went totally against my own rule and bought first, and researched later, and if I get a bad feedback for it, so be it...but I certainly have no interest in a fake fob from any dealer.

I'd love to shut him down, but he's claiming that they are real. The address on the Nickey ones I have seen is wrong, he shows 4601 and it was 4501.
Swiatek says that they did use the 4601 to designate that the shipment was to go to the speed shop, but that was an internal thing.

I have a couple original fobs of this style from a few supercar dealers in my collection... been waiting for him to put one of "his" versions on so we can compare...With the bids he's getting on the current ones, I'm confident it will eventually happen.

The seller just e mailed me, he was evidently e-mailed by someone here...(wonder who? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif) and told me this:
"if you do not want it that is OK- No, I am not going to leave negative feedback, that is not my style, I am not trying to cheat anyone here- I am simply selling these things to recoupe my investment-if you think they are fake fine, your loss not mine-I hope you are having fun bashing me on the Supercar--
- thedahmer"
I asked him once again point blank if he made these and/or had them made, and also invited him to join up here to defend himself if we are all incorrect in thinking otherwise.

Looking at the different fobs it appears like they've been imprinted w/ the various styles after assembly w/ images offset to miss the rivets?.
Wouldn't originals be imprinted on the leather first without rivets installed yet so the result would be the images more centered?.

The design he's selling are not even authentic or vintage to the year some of those dealerships were doing business,IF even in business then too.The Balfour Co.was the original Mfr.of these back then and supplied them to all the dealerships if they wanted them.
Both designs,(Double post on the left & single w/removable key ring on the right),shown below are what Chevrolet issued between 1965-72 and came in both colors shown w/dealer name on opposite side. They would mix up the release of colors from year to year, meaning tan one year, black the next..The page they are sitting on is from the 1970 Chevrolet salesmans Merchandise Catalog.
His keychains on eBay appear to the much earlier 1950's design to me,and stamped much later on after the fact.

I agree with Rick - that style keyholder is not period correct. That style was mid-late fifties.
This is a late fifties Pontiac fob I've had for years. You can see the lack of Zip code ('63) and the
EV prefix on the phone number.
It was originally the same color as the E-bay fobs but I used it for some time. The exposure to grease
and oil darkened it over time.

Well, it doesn't look like Mr. Dahmer is going to be signing up for the sYc anytime soon.
I exchanged about a dozen e-mails with him last night, and he keeps laying it on thicker with every one. I asked him point blank several times, specifically about the COPO one, which IMO is the most blatantly bogus one of them all. Nope, that one's original like all the rest according to him... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I also discovered that he buys ALOT of printing stuff on ebay, and asked about that too, but he says he just collects the stuff. I finally just told him I wasn't buying his story and he promptly stopped e-mailing me. I'm sure he's keeping tabs on this thread now, and the invitation still stands for him to join up and tell us we don't know what we're talking about.

I would think so when a person pays over a 100 dollars for a 5 dollar item that is sold as authentic and it appears it is not and old orginal item.

I agree Bud. I worst part is this guy has sold dozens, maybe even a couple hundred key fobs to unsuspecting buyers. Early on people were paying stupid money for them. I saw a couple of Royal Pontiac fobs sell for like $175.00. This guy is a crook. I hope he gets sued. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
