My brother Gary acquired a new addition! It looks to be a fairly original 1970 Chevelle...

Check it out!

Also...it has plastic inner fenderwells. Was this normal on 70 Chevelles??? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Bruce,

Where was it built? Not sure about the 70`s....but I see this in many 69`s. Depending on the plant build?

Very nice 70.

Interesting paint on underside of hood. Mostly red - don't see any (much) black.

Hi,
The car is "F" for Flint, MI. Was delivered to Luddington, MI. and was a MI. car the whole time. (I got it in Grand Blanc, not far from Flint). I was told it didn't see winters, and for an overall lack of any water damage, I'd think it was a fairly true statement. THe car is for my youngest (15) and I to share in...and he wants it to be an SS clone when it grows up. For now...it is just a 3300lb Malibu.

Gary that car is so sweet like it sits. Build a 454 small block, dress it to look like the stock motor and leave the rest alone.

That is WAY cool Bruce. That 307 should be pretty thrifty too. Love the colors.

a 70 could come with plastic on one side and steel on the other.
just a matter of what was on hand.

Thanks for the explanation Donnie http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I think the car is way cool!

Mark, I like the idea of the BIG small block...though he would have to save the original engine! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

Wow! What a great car. Love the red interior. I'd leave it a regular Malibu. There's way too many SS and SS clones out there nowadays.

It varies from plant to plant. Some use one each, some use both plastic and some use all metal. It is very common to see the battery side on Baltimore cars as plastic or both plastic while I rarely see plastic on Leeds cars as an example.

Overspray on the underside of the hood is also common though this one is really heavy compared to most that I see.

Very nice original car. I see the lack of chrome trim on the bucket seat bottoms. Curious about that as I normally do not see chrome on seat bottoms of SS cars but do on Malibu's.

Gary, It looks like you've got a great father/son/brother/uncle(Bruce) deal going there, the Chevelle really doesn't look like it needs anything immediately, so happy motoring. Sorry we didn't' get a chance to meet you or see the car while we were at pavilions, maybe next time. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I agree. Pretty darn cool just as it sits! Neat color combo with the red guts too. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Now, about those plastic inner fenders. Any part numbers or markings on them? My originals had absolutely no markings of any kind on them, but the ones on Howard's Green car had all kinds, including "Made in Canada".

Flint car eh? Pretty safe bet you won't find a build sheet. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

My sentiments, too! As I was scanning the pictures I was thinking "wow how refreshing to see one NOT cloned into an SS" http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I live 20 miles from Grand Blanc. How long ago did you buy it? where did you see it advertised? I hate it when I miss one so close to home. With the price of gas leave the 307 in it I have a 71 with a 307 and it gets great milage.

I have all 5 (if you include the spare) of the painted 14" steel wheels, and 3 of the 4 dog dish hubcaps the car came with. I think I am going to go with the "SS" style magnum (15") repro wheels, as they are my favorite Chevy wheel.ANYTHING though is better than those 1990's mags on that poor car!

Hey Andy...how ya doing?

I knew Gary would respond...I like the SS wheels too...but he has the option of switching them out when he wants to!

(And he thought the car wouldn't be good enough to take to Pavillions http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hmmm.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Hey Bruce,
Great car and fits well with the other family members. Gary should have a lot of fun with it. Its hard to beat a red/red car for curb appeal. So, can I be a distant cousin with my Chevelle? Say Hi to the girls!!
Later Buddy,
Dave

Hi Bruce,
I took the spare out of the trunk...and it is a flashback to day one. Bright red steel wheel, with a dual white line whitewall bias ply tire. As OEM as they come. The old Granda Ma never changed the tire...and looks to have forgotten the 5 tire rotation schedule. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
