Does anyone here remember this company or any of the cars in this article? Really wild stuff, good read:

Paul,

Check out this month's (June) Hemmings Muscle Machines. There is an article on a 427 '64 Galaxie 500 "Rocket Car". It has an 800 hp Turbonique Rocket Drag Axle. I can scan and post it tonite after work. Believe it is going across Mecum this month. Cool car (black)!

I believe it was the late '60s or early '70s when the Drag Axle was advertised in the car magazines of the time. Never saw one in action. Check the first post. There is a '64 Galaxie there (The Tobacco King) from North Carolina. Might be the same car. Can't be that many around.

Impressive numbers Paul! That is not a '63 Plymouth tho. Looks more like a 66 or 67? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Keith - yes it is the "Tobacco King". Don't know if there is more than one of these. Cool AFX look to the car with torque thrust- like wheels up front and a wicked stance. Sponsored by Reynolds (of Tobacco fame).

This dragster Odessey was a Turbonique rocket turbine that was raced in the day. The dragster went fast enough the problem was it kept burning up the turbine blades. http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg48/ssl78/Dragster.jpg

Hello,

I am looking to reproduce the turbonique engines and no plans exist for the turbonique drag-axle,
(as far as I know)
so I am looking for someone who has one and would be willing to lease it to me so I could reverse engineer the design.

Any leads would be welcomed.
