We must always keep in mind those who have served and perished and those who are our current heros! God Bless them, their families and our Nation! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

An especially difficult day here in Sag Harbor as this Memorial Day we honor the local 19 year old, Marine Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter killed this past April 22nd in Iraq.

A monument in his name shall be erected here.

It is nice to see some towns still take the time to honor our protectors!

Glenn, I think we had all 2000 residents and another 2000 visitors out today. The biggest crowd I've seen in 20 years! Jordan's family received many hugs and condolences along with tons of patriotic support.

Our young mayor spoke very well for this sad occasion.

With all the turmoil in our country, world and media; it is great to see those that appreciate the sacrifices of our fallen Military men and women (...and those serving today).

Bottom line is that all the freedoms we enjoy today were paid for by the blood of our servicemen and women.

Great photos, thank you and hopefully God continues to bless this country.

Well, the family just got back from 3 hours at the USS Arizona Memorial. it was an honor to be part of a group of about 45 people that spent the time raising and lowering 1800 US Flags over her. Here are some pictures from today. Some of the ship itself that are sticking out of the water. The big circle section is one of the big gun turrents while the smaller 3' pipe looking section is one of the ships vents. It looked to have some of the ships cables running through it as well. I reached over and took a picture down into it. Also is the wall of names. we were also on hand for a Navy 4 Star to preside over an Air Force Major promotion to LT Col. Got to meet a great uncle of the new LT Col who was on Gudalcanal when it was attacked as well.

Jeff, that must be some sensation at The USS Arizona, thanks for posting.

This photo below is an escape trunk from the engineering spaces. On my ship, from the shaft alleys to the main deck was six levels with a hatch every two levels if I remember correctly. You can see how strong they are, hopefully they were useful to some on that fateful day.
