View Full Version : Found it under the seat...

I decided to remove the drivers seat in my '69 Z/28 today to see if I could get a little more leg room by installing those seat extenders. Well, after removing the seat carefully, it is by the way all original interior, anyway I noticed a bunch of stuff under the carpet, a used match, stick of juicy fruit spearmint gum, still in the wrapper and hard as a rock along with about .65 in change and of course a Mickey Dee's french fry. After a little more investigating I see this little piece of paper with what looks to be the carpet information. My car has a 06A build date and the date on this is 4-7-69 of all things.....4-7 is my B-day!

That's really cool. My wife worked for JP Stevens in NYC. textile design however, not the automotive carpet division. I didn't even know that they made auto interiors!

How was the MickeyDees fry? still good? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Let's see, the quarters were '66 and '73 the dime was '70 and two pennies both were '72. The french fry was hard as a rock and there was also a piece of rock candy stuck to the carpet with a bunch of long hairs on it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif I'm curious about something else though, there were 8 total holes that were threaded to mount the seat, one in front of the other about an 1"-1"1/2 behind the other. Is that normal or should there be only 4 holes to bolt the seat to? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

When I installed A new interior in my all original 1960 Chrysler 300F I founda nickel dated 1958. Some line worker dropped it ther during assembly in Jan 1960. Poor guy probably couldn't buy a soda that day.

Under the seat of my 1971 442,which was sold new in Michigan, I found a drive in movie stub valued at $2.50 for Detroit Drive Inn. Also a parking stub for a Congress Parking lot in DC dated 1973. Cool stuff, kept all of the stuff.
I refer to this stuff as a cars DNA.

Hey Bart! Do you have a zoom function with that macro feature? I'd like to see those follicles a tad closer to scrutinize whether there are split ends or not and to see if there is any conditioner residue which may allow us to determine the time period in which it may have been used. Good detective work Bart, but let's take it to the next level..... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds like an idea for a new reality tv show..."Hey, Honey look what I found under the rug!"...we could all sort thru our vintage rides and see what we find...have a weekly judging...award prizes...get some sponsors...you know..REAL BIG! How about having Tibor be the judge for anything from the "right" side of the car...and Schoney can judge the "left"...ties will be decided by Dennis http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It least you won't have to buy gas to join in http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Reminds me of the time in '83 I was buying a '74 Firebird Formula to replace my 69 RS Camaro that was totaled when a lady in a '73 Duster ran a red light and smacked into me.

When I was looking over the Firebird, that was a triple black car, I was surprised to find the guy's stash in the glove box and a spent "rain coat" on the floor boards of the back seat. He was selling a couple of cars but the only one I wanted was the Firebird. I looked at him and asked him if he really wanted to sell the car and he said yes he did and why was I asking. I told him from what I found in the glove box and on floor boards he was having too much fun to get rid of that car.

A rear side marker lamp bezel under the floor sound deadener, placed there by a disgruntled assembly line worker just prior to the 1972 Norwood UAW strike. This must have made quite the impossible to diagnose rattle in the passenger compartment for about 35 years!

Sam, I hope you can do your hair follicle analysis work from these pictures. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif I don't know if it makes a difference but the second owner was a woman.(she probably still is) I think that may explain the band aid wrapper along with the french fry, oh and the infamous rock candy.

I'm curious about something else though, there were 8 total holes that were threaded to mount the seat, one in front of the other about an 1"-1"1/2 behind the other. Is that normal or should there be only 4 holes to bolt the seat to?

Eight holes is normal, that is your seat adjustment in a 1st gen camaro.

Dave, That's actually what I thought and when I described the 8 holes to a buddy, who happens to also be a Camaro freak said his two cars only had the four holes and that someone must have drilled the two extra holes for adjustment in my car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gifhttp://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

My Jun 69 RS Norwood built car had 8 holes. let me check my Jan 69 RSZ VN built car when I get home. I just assumed they all had the eight holes so you at least had a little adjustment.
