Question, can you run leaf spring clamps on the street and still have the rear springs perform normally .? Would like to avoid wild spring wind up during "sprited" acceleration runs and don't want to install traction bars (too many nightmares from ripping them up on raised sewer caps back in the day)Thanks mucho

Sully, Your TB's used to hit the manholes? NAH! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif You must have been on a construction site or jumping curbs in those days! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif Put a nice set of Lakewoods on that bad boy and be done with it! Paint them yellow too.

Back in the day Sammy, they were putting in sewars all over the South Shore of Long Island, roads were hammered and they took thier sweet ass time getting the roads back in shape, didn't have the modern whizz bang paving systems they have now and the roads stayed cruddy/bumpy and lumpy for a while. Besides I am going with the Stealth bomber look. Who saw the F22 Raptor over the beaches of LI this past weekend. Absolutely unbeleivable what that plane can do, Blue Angels werent't shabby either. C'mon who has the clamps already.?

Should be no problem running them on the street. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I think I spied a set on Ray Morrisons 68 the last time I looked under it http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif. I think I have an idea who installed those things too http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Hey Sully, I found some spring clamps still in the blister paks from Cal Custom on Ebay a while back and they are going on my 72 Nova..... Some day http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Phil Brewers 68 Nova also has them as well as a piece of flat stock above the longest leaf to help prevent spring wrap up..

The old article on the Gibb/Harrel Novas shows the spring clamps being installed...shouldn't be too hard to replicate.

You can run them on the street, but the ride is noticeably stiffer. Also, I have the Mr. Gasket set, they are a bit too wide and will hit your frame rails when the car squats. You will need to grind about a 1/4" off the ends that face the c/l of the car - both sides, ie; all 4 plates!

The DH method.

I have the spring clamps on my 69 RS/SS and it is a good bit stiffer for daily driving. They're off in 5 minutes so no big deal.

I've been running a set of DH clamps on my 68 for a few years now. I use them with the Lakewood bars..What a difference. The car hooks harder and goes straighter... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

The clamps will be going on shortly, noticed the front end of the leafs are a bit "tweaked" already, going with the DH method. Anybody use an aftermarket pinion/front of diff. snubber,? seems the factory one ain't cuttin it and some marks are being on left on the floor pan above the rear U joint. Thanks for the tips/pics. Maybe if you took your right foot out of the "water pump" you wouldn't damage so much hardware http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif...by the way, when are you installing the wheely bars...??? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The car has 2 speeds, off and floored, parts be damned

The spring clamps will help with the shaft to floorboard issue. On one of my first runs down the strip, I noticed that the car was 'settling' at the big end - enough for the shaft to just lightly rub the floor board. Stronger springs, some clamps, some wedges, or a snubber would all work.

Like M said, the clamps should help subdue axle wrapup, and keep the floor safe...if the front portion of the leafs can't bend/seperate, then the axle itself can't move...unless it moves within the u-bolts!

Ordered the clamps and will have my local steel guy fashion me up some DH plates, anybody running a different snubber, something that would not "allow" the diff/d.shaft to travel up to the floorboards.? Thanks again for the help
