Are these the ones that read the air pressure?

I believe that they are there so you dont have to pull your trim ring to add air and or check your tire pressure if you have the older style short valve stems. I know you can get the longer valve stems and just use a normal cap. I have never seen or heard of the extensions being discussed nor have I seen them for sale.

Those are neat accessory items for sure, but i can almost guarantee nothing like that was ever factory installed... I think the extenders he's looking for are something different. The idea of the extenders being used to help the valve stem pass through the trim ring makes sense.

I remember them - as a black plastic extender, about 1 1/2" long with a rounded metal covering on the tip. Very similar to the look of the on the wheel tire gauge, but not as thick. I'll have to dig to see if I have any.

Thanks guys ....I think Dog has what I need to look for. The ones they sell now days have a White plastic insert. I used to see them on GM cars of the 80s and 90s on the spoked hubcaps. Never seen the metal insert ones until your pic. Thanks again for the responses. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Thanks

The only GM number I have for them is 9417745 for 1969-70. I have not had any luck finding any as of yet.

That part number is still available at your local dealer.

Thanks Brian! I ordered a pack of 5 and will see if it pans out. It stated they were a special order part. I have visted that site before in the past for other newer parts and never thought about older parts & number searches http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I have done a little more research on these extensions and found out that they were also part of the RPO P01 fullsized hub caps found on Impalas and Novas. Not a desireable hubcap though. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

For model year(s) 69 and 70 (and through at least 73), the original factory supplied extensions were supplied by Schrader and delivered in a brown paper container that, most likely, was deep sixed during new car prep. The reproductions have the white rounded center and were reproduced (probably) from the later 'in service' units pictured above.
I have only seen two sets (four to a set) of original Schrader extensions for sale. They are certainly a tough score today. Good luck with your search.
Regards,
Mark

Well I ordered some but they emailed me a week later and told me the part is discontinued and cancelled my order. Oh well still looking. Thanks again http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif
I'm showing many dealers still holding inventory on these, but it's the later more common shorter, white plastic cap design #989276,not the earlier longer 1970 original metal cap design of #9417745.I've only seen the metal cap design as an accessory for luxury/economy models and not installed on the line for any Hi-po models.
I bought a box of the later in the bag design #276 in the picture above back in 1992 from a local dealer here.
I'm pretty sure those in the bag above picture were available between 1985-98.

How long should these be??? I found some in the bottom of my tool from when I was working at Monkey Wards mounting tires mid 1970's... Some are 3/4" and some are 1" with Shrader USA around the top and the white button... Crash
Will these work?

Crash....Im not sure on the length they should be. I did find another number in my research. The N66 (Super Sport wheel) and PO1 (Full Sized hub cap) have the 9417745 number and PO2 (Possibly the full sized spoked not sure as there was a mag looking full sized available also))and they are 9417730. I would take whatever you have. How many of each do you have? Thanks

While out over the weekend I pulled into a parking space next to a new Grand Marquis - I didn't have my glasses on - but it had valve stem extensions on it that looked just like the white tipped extensions previously posted here.

What makes the lug nuts so rare? They look identical to the ones that came on the Deuces.

I think the crown is taller on original production line ones vs. over the counter ones. I'll bet detailed diagramed pics will soon follow. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

BTW... Did we ever decide for sure that Yenko Deuces used the same nuts as the Chevelle SS wheels? Since they would have been shipped with XT wheels and the Magnum 500's added, I always wondered if the 500's came shipped with a set of stainless capped nuts like GM installed wheels, or if Yenko just ran across the street to the local tire shop and got some chrome acorn nuts for them... Heck, I wouldn't have been surprised if he reused the open ended nuts from the XT's! What's your yellow car have on it Mayor?

Original deuces have chromed, tall dome, acorn nuts - most likely the version available from the tire shop across the street! They look very similar to the lugs in the pic above.

Pretty sure the ones shown above are a steel nut with a stainless cap crimped on.

Joe, BINGO.........you are correct. I see so few original lug nuts (as shown below) its my own conclusion as to how rare these must be. I would be interested to learn what 1969 or 1970 Wheels used these same stainless capped lugs, besides the Z-28. Its so difficult to find these survivor lugs, therefore I'm not sure what other applications used them.....
How about my 1970 14x7 Camaro Rally Wheel application ???
FYI, The short crown 2nd design is sold by Ames Peformance Pontiac for one for a nominal charge. I've seen inept EBAY buyers, pay way too much for "NOS" 2nd design lugs, thinking they were buying 1970 Originals......NOT !!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure I have a set of those lying around in my valve stem drawer...... I thought they were aftermarket stuff! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Why the heck would Chevy use them in production rather than just having longer rubber stems??????

So the easy way to tell them apart is the height of the crown at the top... if it is approx the same height as the hex it is the "ole" one if it is shorter than the hex... it is the newer?
