Since I got my car the rear gear has had a noticeable whine.
I pulled the cover off and looked around and didnt see anything unusual. The ring & Pinion are stock gm 373.

Before I get to far into this are these rears commonly noisy or what are the opinions pertaining to conditions which could cause this????

Thanks

Improper lash, carrier or pinion bearings, low fluid, M22 trans, stereo not loud enough.

Would a bad bearing cause excess clutch chatter or grabbing????

Whine accelerating=lash too tight
Whine coasting=lash too loose
Whine always=bearing or bad gears

temp cure per old used car salesmen = banana peels or saw dust.

I'll have to check, I never really noted if the whine is constant or not. The date on the gears match the range which would indicate they are original to the car, so I guess if they have been improperly set for long enough they may be worn. Thanks for the info, I've never really been up speed differential stuff guess nows the time to start.

Thanks for the help

Shouldn't...throw in some posi additive (preferably the GM stuff)...like 68Cam says above, clutch issues are different than a whine.
