A month ago Gene Wray announced he had sold his 66 442 W30. It is one of the original 54 factory built cars and possible the first production car off the line with the W30 package.
I am the lucky purchaser! I have been around this car for the 3 years Gene owned it and when the opportunity came up a wise desision was made to buy it. Although it goes against the grain of some of my other cars (luxury and performance) the rareity made this a must happen.
During the period I waited to free up some storage space I tracked down and spoke with the original owner Alan Maurer.
Maurer confirmed he ordered the car upon the information and urging of his Zone rep back in April 1966. The car was built the first week of June 1966 and delivered to Maurer Oldsmobile and Machine of Wilton,Iowa on June 13th 1966, Alans 33rd Birthday. He kept the car until Feb 1968,doing considerable street racing with this car.
He stated that while often beating other 442's and other A body GM cars, he would suggest that the owners bring them to Maurer Oldmobile to do some tuning and add performance parts to bring their performance up to par!
Coincidentally my very first Oldsmobile was a 66 Cutlass Convertible and now I have the ultimate W30 in my garage.
