Sam,

I've been admiring your car since you went public with it. What an absolute beauty!! The layout and story in Hemmings is a great tribute to the car. I've got a very similar car, but without the colorful history. Mine was a grocery / church car for a gal in North Carolina with the low horse 325hp 396.

I thought I'd share a few photos of it. Not trying to hijack the thread in any way. Just sharing a neat car that I've owned for almost 14 years. It has just over 27,000 miles. There aren't many survivors around like these.

Phil,

I`m a little partial to your Post Sedan....I`m happy to see you`ve owned the car for as long as you have. Another fine example of the right car with the right owner. Great Chevelle. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Can-I-Have-It.gif

Dan,

You are getting me all fired to get the sedan underway. The sedan will be the car that I would have ordered had I not been 7 years old in 69. I originally wanted a lemans blue 69 SS, but when I found the black 69 SS, I was hooked. One of my older brothers bought a 69 SS black/black 350 hp auto, bench car back in '71 and I have been addicted to 69 Chevelles ever since.

Getting 69 owners fired up about there cars is the easy part. Thank God, for smarter older brothers... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Woj,

I certainly don't consider this a high-jack. Your car is a beauty and the fact that it is a grocery/church car in a black BB 4speed car makes it VERY cool. I'll bet the original owner had an interesting personality. Your photos look terrific and I like the vintage Ohio plates. Do you know what dealership this came from?

Sam,

The car was purchased new from Tom Brooks Chevrolet in Lenoir, NC. It was traded in for an 83 Monte Carlo SS at Valley Chevrolet, Granite Falls, NC.

I have spoken at length with the original owner's daughter (now 72 years old) about her mother and the car. Her mom, Mabel, always loved sporty fast cars and truely used it as a grocery getter / church car. Mabel's husband was a pick-up truck guy and had no interest in the car. I hope someday to get some original pix of the car, but it hasn't happened yet.

Way cool. If I do some ruff math, Mabel's daughter would have been about 32 y.o. in '69 when her Mom brought the car home and Mabel would have been about 52 or so. That is cool that back then a 52 y.o. picked up a very cool and healthy muscle car to get her around town. SaaawwweeeeeeeeeT! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

More pix if you got 'em! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Sam,

Your math is pretty close. The last time I did it based on the daughter's info, I figured Mabel was about 57 years old when she bought the car. What a gal. I've got a standing offer to meet the daughter if I ever make it to North Carolina.

I did a title search through North Carolina DMV about 5 years ago and low and behold, they provided me with certified copies of the Certificate of origin and copies of the title to Mabel and the second owner. That is how I was able to track down the daughter.

I'll post a few more pix this weekend.
