Marty still needs documented cars and pics for his upcoming book. He is still looking for interesting B-M cars, ones that have not been out there. Always interested in photos of Motion and Baldwin Chevrolet,1967 models, Chevy II/Novas, Biscaynes and whatever has been covered and put away. He already has alot of stuff from members already but is still searching out the unknown cars so if you know of anything let me know or post on this thread.

Charlie- A good friend of mine used to write articles for CARS Magazine in the mid-70s when Marty was Editor.
We would like to contact him as we know of two "barn find" Motion Corvettes that would be of interest.
Letters sent to Joel Rosen for documentation have gone unanswered for whatever reason???
Can you provide Marty's email address via the forum or via a PM? My email is:

Book Description
It was a driver's dream: Along with the full factory warranty, your car came with a guarantee of 11.5-second quarter-mile times. It was also Joel Rosen's dream, and in 1964, he set out to make it a reality. First he built fast cars. Then, taking a page from Ford's "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" strategy, he built a reputation by beating all comers on drag strips and in street races. By 1967, Rosen's Motion Performance was the place to go if you wanted a true muscle car—and, if you ordered a Baldwin-Motion Chevrolet, a muscle car with a full factory warranty. Motion Performance tells the inside story of how it all happened. Brilliantly illustrated with period pictures and modern color photos, the book takes readers along as Cobras, Chevrolets, Oldsmobiles, even Volkswagen Beetles roll into the shop to get torn down and rebuilt into cars unbeatable on the streets and drag strips. Marty Schorr gives a first-hand account of seven years of high-performance life--and of how it all came to a screeching halt at the hands of the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency. A once-in-a-lifetime tale of power and speed, told by one of the principals who put that performance within reach, Motion Performance makes the story of a briefly and thrillingly lived dream available to everyone

From the Inside Flap
In 1964, Joel Rosen and Marty Schorr decided to turn their high-performance dreams into high-performance reality. Calling the new entity Motion Performance, they started building some very, very fast street cars. To take things to the next level, Motion followed Ford's adage "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" and raced its cars at drag strips on weekends and on the streets at night. Those cars beat all comers and Motion started building a reputation.
By 1967, Motion Performance was recognized as the place to go if you wanted to build serious strength into your muscle car. To expand the franchise, Rosen and Schorr formed a legendary relationship with Baldwin Chevrolet, allowing any gearhead of the day to buy an 11.5-second car off the lot--and it came with a full factory warranty.
No other aftermarket muscle car tuner took the hands-on, no-stone-unturned approach followed by Motion: cars were rolled into the shop, torn apart, then rebuilt with the highest-quality components available at the time.
For 10 years, this high-performance flame burned on. Cobras, Chevrolets, Oldsmobiles, even Volkswagen Beetles were transformed into unbeatable cars that ruled the streets and drag strips. Then one day it all came to a screeching halt. The U.S. Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency threatened to levy fines of up to $50,000 per car Motion Performance sold. And that was that, the end of an amazing chapter of high-performance history.
This is the inside story of how the cars were built, who they were built for, and how they ruled the street and strip. And it's the story of the twenty-first-century resurrection of the Baldwin-Motion brand. Richly illustrated with both period and modern photography, author Marty Schorr knows where the bodies are buried and tells us how they got there.
From the Back Cover
In 1964, Joel Rosen and Marty Schorr set out to make muscle car history. Motion Performance tells the inside story of how it all happened, from racing Corvettes on the streets and drag strips of the East Coast to teaming up with Baldwin Chevrolet to create the legendary Baldwin-Motion muscle supercars; from the EPA shutting the whole thing down to the whole thing being reborn forty years later with the debut of the Baldwin-Motion 540 Camaro SuperCoupe. Brilliantly illustrated with period pictures and modern color photos, this book takes readers on a wild ride as Cobras, Chevrolets, Oldsmobiles, even Volkswagen Beetles roll into the shop to get torn down and rebuilt into cars unbeatable on the streets and strips. It's a once-in-a-lifetime tale of power and speed, told by one of the principals who put that performance within everyone's reach.

...woke up to this email from Marty;
Hi Chris:
I saw your posting as well as those from others on the Supercar Registry website regarding cover copy of the Motion book. I certainly appreciate all those nice words from my friends.
However, you and others should know that some of that copy was inaccurate and was not proofed by me before being released by the publisher. There will be changes.
For example, in 1964 Joel Rosen was running Motion Performance in Brooklyn, NY and I was Editor of CARS Magazine. We first met in 1964. A couple of years later Joel moved Motion to Baldwin, NY and in 1967 when the Camaro was introduced I worked with Joel on putting the Baldwin Chevrolet deal together, resulting in Baldwin-Motion Supercars. I continued to work with Joel on the Baldwin-Motion program, later on marketing Motion Supercars. At no time did I ever have an interest in Motion Performance. It has always been owned by Joel and Judith Rosen.
As always, thanks for your support.
Regards,
Marty

This is a small insert in an article written by a long time Motion fan and well known automotive enthusiast Paul Zazarine in 'MuscleCar Enthusiast"...
"Joel "Mr Motion" Rosen had surgery to relieve a back condition this past May. Since I just had the same surgery in February, I called to wish him good luck.Joel was the man who built the extraordinary Baldwin-Motion Camaros back in the late 1960's .Those cars are now worth six figures. You may not know that Joel is a superb model maker and supplies highly detailed aviation and naval models to both private parties as well as the Department of Defense. I know you join me in wishing Joel a speedy recovery"....Here's to good health guys.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

EMAIL FROM MARTY:
Guys:
Since you have been enthusiastically posting about the book, here's the final front and back covers. Book is printed and probably will be officially on sale sometime in September.
There have been some postings about the copy on the book jacket flap about me and the book. I can't imagine where that came from since it was never used! The book will have a full color laminated hardcover that's both embossed and de-bossed.
No jacket and flap, no photo and copy about me. Maybe that's a good thing!
I have plans to be at Bob Ashton's Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals on Nov 21-22 in Chicago to debut Adam Tuckman's Phase III GT Corvette and will be signing books.
Thanks guys (and other Motion fans in the Yenko Club) for your support.
Regards,
Marty

Excellent well written book with great photos. On page 34 there is a reference to Dr. Charles Hash as a previous owner of the King Cobra. Back in 1990 or 1991 I purchased a 70 Shelby GT500 from him and he happen to show me this blue 1966 Cobra. He mentioned it had been a drag modified Cobra. Well what I was looking at was Clem Hoppe's King Cobra. Amazing...simply amazing

MOTION PERFORMANCE
Tales of a Muscle Car Builder
By Martyn L. Schorr. Foreword by Joe Oldham.
310 photographs. 176 pages. Motorbooks. $35.
The last nail in the coffin of the classic American muscle car came in 1974, courtesy of the United States Justice Department. The government’s nine-pound hammer was the Clean Air Act. Rather than Carroll Shelby or other high-profile producers of “super muscle cars,” a young Long Island drag racer named Joel Rosen was chosen for the landmark cease-and-desist order.
The Environmental Protection Agency and the Transportation Department had been sniffing around Mr. Rosen’s shop, Motion Performance, in Baldwin, N.Y. Now, the agencies were demanding $10,000 for each piece of antipollution equipment discarded when cars like 90-horsepower Chevy Vegas were sold with 500-horse V-8s, financed and delivered by nearby Baldwin Chevrolet with factory warranties.
Martyn Schorr writes about these events as if he were there right from Motion’s beginnings in 1963 — which he was, in dual roles, as the editor of High-Performance Cars magazine who moonlighted as Mr. Rosen’s advertising guy. Thus was Mr. Schorr able to provide inside information about every model that flew the Motion Performance flag, from Cobras to VWs, along with terrific street, strip and shop photos.
The author also includes an illuminating introductory chapter, “Muscle in America,” that recaps the high-performance builders whose tradition Mr. Rosen upheld. Whereas other “hot-rod books” tend to be long on photography but short on accuracy and technical details, this rare exception excels on all counts.

Nice review from the Times.........It took a lot of work and time to put the book together...but Marty and those concerned did it right and the finished book is a nice testament to those who pioneered early on the American Musclecar idea and to Joel Rosen for carrying on the engineering inovations and ideas that made Baldwin Motion Performance one of the top performance shops and HI-PO dealerships back in the day.....Thanks for the memories..............JoeG.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I enjoy Marty's books, ever since I picked up his Quicksilver published books in the 80's. I see he's reprinted the two old Mopar Quicksilver editions into one modern printing:

Maybe a reprint of the Chevy and Pontiac ones is coming?
I got the Motion Book from Amazon recently. That, Colin's Shelby book and the "We Were Ramchargers" books are great gifts for us book buffs. Great job Mr. Schorr.
