Guys,
Looking for a reverse Lock-out rod for my 69 Chevelle 4-speed. It's the one that goes from the Lock-out mechanism up to the steering column.
Thought I had the right one but it turned out to be for an automatic.
thanks,

Can someone post pics or tell me the differences. I have one that I don't remember what it came off of and one still on a manual trans 72 Nova that I will be pulling off since it looks like it will be in the way of the headers when they go in.

Jim and Bill,
The correct upper backdrive rod should be stamped 2889 for 4-speed cars. The lower rod is stamped 5497. These are the same for all Muncie 4-speed equipped 69-72 Chevelles. Saginaw 4-speeds use different rods. I can email pics to anybody interested but don't know how the attachment thing works for these websites.

Chris is right, there is a difference between the Saginaw vs. Muncie rod.
Both 1969-70 Chevelles shared the #2889 rod.
They only repop the later 1971 issued Chevelle/Muncie #3931438 lockout rod included in a kit,but I don't see it sold seperately so I think you have to buy all the linkage rods that go along with it for $120.00 through Modern Chevrolet.
Try contacting our sponsor too,D&R Classic,as they sell the Camaro muncie repop lockout rod seperately for $25.00.They might know how to obtain the single #2889 Chevelle/Muncie reverse lockout rod if it's out there.
Here's a seller claiming a Muncie rod set up for sale on kijiji w/pic.

That's the Lower reverse lock out rod, part #3955776.
It goes from the frame mounted idler lever to the 1st-Rev lever on a Manual trans.
Specifically used on 1969 Camaro BB 4spd. only.

Jim
My memory is fair at best, and it was July when I started looking for this rod.
But I remember contacting you about the rod and you told me you had a few of them but you weren't sure about selling them.
Good luck with your ebay sale, I'm still looking for one.
