Does anybody know how many different ratios were offered on 98-02 SS Camaros? If so, how do you determine which ratio a car is equipped with?

My business keeps me on the road from 350 to 700 miles a day. The wife & I have a 99 SS that we bought new, that thing has a real tall gear out back, 3.08-2.73? It's gotten 26-29 mpg from day one, trouble is, it's the wife's garage queen and she doesn't want the miles run up on it. I've decided to just buy one of my own, but I have to have the tall gear ratio in order for it to be cost effective.

Automatic LS1 cars come with 3.23s or 2.73s from the factory, and six speed LS1 cars have 3.42 gears.

2000ss is correct. Thoses are the factory ratios.

3:73's were installed in many base model GMMG cars.

Here are the rpo codes that are on the drivers door label:
M6 GU6 3.42 Standard
A4 GU2 2.73 Standard
A4 GU5 3.23 Optional (standard gear set with an SS/WS6/Firehawk)

Steve: my '98 SS as well as my brother's SS both would knock down around 30 out on the road...both M6 cars w/3.42 gears...I even put 4.10s in mine, and didn't lose hardly any mileage. And check your PM's...

Oh yes! I'm going to pick up my "economy car" this weekend. I checked the wife's ride and it's got a 3.42. The car I'm buying is also a 6spd w/ 3.42's. I can't wait to start saving gas. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks Guys,
