View Full Version : Yenko Emblems?
RARE Z/28
07-08-2008, 12:58 AM
I am about to install the Yenko emblems on my 1970 Deuce and not certain which ones are correct. Is it the silver ones or the white ones. By this I mean the difference between the two is that the white ones have a white outer area and white stars with mounting pins on the back, and the other emblem is a very distinctive silver with silver stars and no mounting pins on the back. I recieved the silver outlined emblems with the car and they are definitely reproduction and I had already purchased a set from a friend who said they were original. I do not know which are correct. Can somebody help please?
Richard.

The Deuce gets the chrome emblems, no pins, double sided tape, and bec/ your car is a first order car would most likely get the insets painted the appropriate colors - but not the edges. The edges would be left chrome.

Does this mean the later cars got the white on the outer portion? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Yea, generally speaking, the 06B cars that were converted by Hurst have a higher probability of completely white emblems - but not the '69 style. They just painted them differently, as there are at least 3 different paint schemes for the '70 Deuce emblems.

Oh, ok...this i agree with. I thought you were claiming later cars to have the white pinned 69 emblems on them and i was gonna start a big argument. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I'd bet even most late cars still had the same paint scheme as the one pictured above, with a few oddballs mixed in.

Exactly, it's just a few oddballs - not that many, but enough to document the exception as they've been found on original paint/condition cars. It's not too much of a stretch either, as the Hurst converted cars have several peculiar things with them - they just did things different than Yenko's kids!
Cool topic though http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
Now if we could start a picture war on how the repro emblem pictured above is different than the originals.....

The main difference between repro and original is thickness. The repop casting was made from an original emblem. They must have allowed for more metal when poured. The paint is tester model car colors. My wife paints them as needed. She does nicer detail work than originals. The blue color changes depending on whats in stock at the hobby shop. They also come in black as a dealer emblem. Earl

Your repops are the best out there Earl, and I have recommended them to several people... The thickness is actually very close. I stripped the paint out of mine and actually sprayed them for nice, even coverage..."over-restored" yes, but what the hell! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif What alot of folks don't realize is that even original Yenko emblems were not all the same. There was apparently at least 2 (maybe 3 or 4) different runs of them produced and there are slight variations to them.

Joe is correct on all counts, Earls emblems are the best out there next to finding NOS ones. It took me about 5 years to find 3 NOS ones for my car - not easy, and not cheap!

OK, enough of the "easy" Yenko emblem trivia.. what does anyone know about this one? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Geez! You've been hawkin that same old emblem for years, and we still don't know what it's for. Yenko probably realized that it was a lot cheaper to put the LT/1 into the stripe design on the hood compared to having emblems made/installed.
Got any prototype stripe pics where there's no LT/1 on the hood? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

The reason I brought it up is I recently picked up another pair of them, with a very similar story behind them as the ones I scored back in 2002 and again in 2004. They were definitely something Yenko had made, legit Yenko specific pieces, and may or may not have been used for whatever reason. I do know they were included in the glovebox of at least one car that was shipped to a network dealer. BTW...Just because the Deuce stripe has "LT-1" in it doesn't mean diddley squat in regards to if any of these emblems were ever stuck on a car... the stripe has "Yenko" in it too, but that didn't stop them from adding Yenko badges too (in 3 places, plus a logo on the tach and on all 4 wheel centers!) did it? Didn't think so... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I still think Don opted not to use them simply because when the COPO Novas arrived they already had 350 emblems on the fenders... He was probably expecting them to be totally void of badges like the COPO Camaro's of 69 were. (In which he added his own 427 badges btw!)
I post them from time to time in hopes an original Deuce owner or someone else who was around back then will share any story or knowledge of them... nothin' wrong with tryin' to research this stuff is there?

You'll have to remind me Joey, but are these badges roughly the same size as the engine call outs? Or bigger/smaller??

I was just thinking that Don was cheapin out by not opting for emblems if he didn't have to. He would however add his name anywhere he could! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Funny you should ask... I wondered that myself and just went out to check... Turns out they are darn near identical in size to a "350" fender badge.. and they affix with 2 sided tape, just like the Yenko badges for 70. Incidently, they were also packaged in a clear baggie with 2 badges per baggie. So are ya startin' to feel what I'm layin' down? Yenko issued LT-1 badges, packaged 2 per bag, and identical in size to the factory 350 callouts that Don probably wasn't expecting to be there...hmmm.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

...and btw, I've never "hawked", sold or traded one of these ever, or even attempted to. I think I have 6 of 'em in my collection, all with similar stories behind them, linking them to Yenko/Deuces. I just thought they were an intriguing part of Yenko history that not many seem to know anything about, and might appriciate seeing once every 4 years or so.

Neat story behind the emblems but Don sure could have tried a little harder to make them stand out. I think those would have been great with a much larger "LT-1" chrome letter. They almost look home made. I think your reasoning behind why they were made and never installed is a likely one.

Sorry, didn't mean 'hawked' in the sense of trying to sell 'em, but that we've been kickin around with them trying to figure out the application! I know you've never tried to sell 'em, 'cause I would've bought a pair! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
One story I heard a looong time ago was that they were a motion item for the vegas, but that didn't quite make sense when we found out that a set was found in the glovebox of a Deuce.
I think the fender application sounds quite plausible. Are they in the parts catalog?

As usual you guys have been a wealth of knowledge! Special thanks everyone for trying to help! And to Joe Barr once again it was a pleasure speaking with you. The car should be complete in a week or so. I will gladly post a couple of photographs if anyone is interested.
