-----Cant wait to see the issue in person. Good for you, Tom!!! How come your name isnt mentioned??? I was especially pleased to see Terry Carneys name in there as he was at times passed over by some. His contributions to "Red Alert" were, as far as I am concerned, huge. Im really not an outgoing guy and Terry would always manage to open doors for me, as well as so much more. I miss him every day..........Bill S

Hey Pretty Boy!
I too miss that guy. We did a lot of hanging those last 2 years before he passed. That guy was an absolute stitch.
We've all got so many Terry stories it would fill a book.
Some of the Metro Milwaukee stories were the best.

I apologize for going off topic. But I think it's important in Terry's legacy. A lot of people thought he was just a crazy, hard drinking Irishman. Those that knew him recognized that he was actually a great promoter-instrumental in the sale and brokering of many well known cars- very knowledgable- and probably the most loyal friend you could have. You always knew it was him on the phone- always "Hey pretty boy!" "Hey hot shot!" The car community lost a great one way too soon.
Bill, no big deal, does not bother me that I was not mentioned.
To me, it should be about the car and the history, which includes not only the Hamilton family, but you and Terry, and the others who before me who took such good care of her. Most folks cannot believe that the car has been a racecar since 1971, and yet remains in such good, unrestored condition.

------I probably should say that the resto on this Cougar was actually too nice in a way. Unlike "Red Alert" this gorgeous Cougar will never see the lights come down again. Randy and the crew did too good a job and the car has achieved "museum potato" status. I remember being told how difficult the resto was. I guess Cougar resto peices dont come even close to being easy to find. It is a peice of history, though and probably deserves the rest........Bill S

One last off topic post. As one that believes that credit should be given when due. While we are handing out kudos here, there is one person that hasn't been acknowledged.
Back in the day, we had one major financial and emotional backer- Mike G. He was behind the scenes on nearly every rare discovery/restoration. In fact, we had an affectionate nickname for him- Mike "Please don't mention my name, I'm a silent partner"!
At any rate, Mike is known by new members here for Grumpy's Toy, Sox/Martin, etc. However, back in the day when these rare cars and race cars were being resurrected for love of the hobby and not great financial gain, Mike was right there. I believe his pioneering support in resurrecting these race cars is directly responsible for the prices we see today.
I thought back and realized he had involvement in most of the well known cars today, including Super Cat, Red Alert, The Judge, the then unknown L78 Convertibles, various Yenkos, COPOs, ZL1's, etc.
I don't even know if you post on this board any more Mike, but a big thank you for what you've done for decades to preserve this wonderful hobby and passion.

Went to a local track for some TNT in Red Alert. Things started off kind of slow, do to traction problems. But, as I experimented with tire pressures and burnout procedure, I was able to drop my ’60 time from 1.70s to 1.60s, with a best of 1.58. I felt really good about this, as this was with very little track prep. My last pass of the day was a personal best, with a 6.8728 at 102.46. As usual, the car was well received.
BTW, I had a blast. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I checked the log on the weather station, and the DA never got below 4300', and was over 4500' most of the time we were there...I knew it was hot & sticky, but that's *horrible* air! We were gradually getting the 60' time worked down when the rain started...

Big Red went a 10.6x @ 128+ straight outta the trailer last night @ MMP...short time was a little lazy, and the car got crossed up a little, and the air was over 2300'...rest of the night was spin city (think track went away?).
Yellow Sub went back to back 12.3s @ 115.8 outta the trailer, but rest of the runs were wasted @ the line...she didn't fare too well on the new shoes?

-----Tom, Rob,,,inquiring minds need to know. Whats up with Red???.........Bill S
Plans were to TNT both the Yenko Camaro and Red Alert Thursday at Memphis, then Friday morning head to Monmouth/LaHarpe. Instead, one of those nights. Started out OK, with me running a 10.60 @ 128 with a so-so 60', Rob did a couple of 12.30s, then the track really went South, zero traction. On top of that the Yenko developed a slight mis-fire, and I discovered low oil pressure in RA. On the way home the wires to the winch shorted out and as we unhooked the trailer we discovered one of the motors on the trailer legs had gone bad. Friday AM I drained the oil and cut the filter to check for damage. Discovered metal in the filter as well as needle bearings. At this point, we decided the motor needed to come out, which we did, so that is why I was not at LaHarpe. This morning I am headed to a local machine shop to see about getting the engine rebuilt.
Seems a roller lifter came apart, lots of metal everywhere, spun two main bearings with a needle bearing actually passing through one of the crank journals. Needless to say, not good.
Because the amount of damage necessitates a major rebuild, we felt this would be a good time to put things back closer to the way it was raced in the ‘70s, factory intake, carb, air cleaner, radiator shroud, etc.
Hopefully we can get everything up and running by the SCR.
