Probably doesn't seem like much in today's world of cell phones and text messaging...but 39 years ago yesterday we landed on the moon. These space pioneers were real heros to my generation...we need more like them today.

That's for damn sure. I've got most (if not all) of the Apollo astronaut patches(some signed) thanks to my dad!

I was just cleaning some stuff up over at my mom's house and came across a coffee mug commemorating the Apollo 11 flight. Neat stuff and brought back a lot of memories from back then. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

I was 8 years old and at summer camp. I remember watching the launch on the black and white tv at the camp's center pavillion. Neat stuff at the time.

My dad bought our first new Color TV (with the reasoning that we needed to see them land on the moon in color). From what I remember...most of the coverage was in black and white.
My mom wasn't really happy http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We were all gathered in the main assembly hall at my high school in Auckland NZ at the time listening to it on the radio. We thought it was just amazing being able to hear it on the radio.
Even though I was in New Zealand I can still remember getting goose bumps just listening to it happen. It is one of those things in life that you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing at that time, like with the JFK assasination.

Man,what a feeling of community that was.
I remember hearing "They've Landed,They've Landed!"..sometime after 3PM Chicago time on a hot afternoon, and my Dad saying to all the kids in our area,"Cmon in,we're gonna watch em walk!".
With us huddled around any TV in the neighborhood for nearly 7 hours,it wasn't until sometime after 10PM we heard/saw the famous images.I can't think of too many things that could hold a 6 year olds attention for that long of time back then.
It was all worth it to me.http://www.pixeljoint.com/files/icons/nasa_astronaut.gifhttp://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

I remember it well too...crazy it's that long ago already! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif.
I was on holidays at my Grandparent's place in Collingwood Ontario and we were all gathered around the old B&W set...me upset to be missing my daily doses of Mayberry, the Clampets and Green Acres! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif.
I remember after they landed the commentator saying 'sorry folks, looks like it's not made of cheese'...my Gramps and I got a kick outa' that! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

July 20th is my uncles Bday and his son was also born on that date in 1969!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif The moon landing obviously took all the hooplah out of the same birthdates.
I too was pressed up against a large B&W TV. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
