Interesting Dyno results. I recently had my 427 425 hp enjine on the Dyno by a local shop ,been around for a dogs age or more.
I Used a stock dist and stock enjine ran the the motor on the Dyno.Then I installed in the orig dist Petronix electronic module.The Hp and torque diff was amazing with only instlling the petronix.
If I find the dyno specs of both appplications I will post them.

I always used the Delco D112P HD points. Point bounce never seemed to be a problem with them. I picked up a couple of sets a few years ago from a local shop.

It's kind of funny because so long ago the magazines wrote 50 HP with a header switch on an LS-6. That in it's self is night and day in a motor. Rick if you get a chance, can you look at the dyno sheets that have the header vs manifolds and report back where they make their peak horsepower? I would assume the headers make its horsepower peak 200-300 RPM higher with the headers. On manifolds, we had peak HP at 6000RPM.

If you carry the compression, retarding the camshaft from the stock 6 degrees advance to 1-2 advance really makes the top end work.

A guy named Weymouth has said he has seen it on a dyno and he is a Pontiac guy.

Thing with the LS6 is, the intake SUCKS...on our L72 we've got the IVC pushed back 5.5 degrees but our 163 is 1" taller, so there isn't the bottleneck as with the 569...so maybe it can't take as much retarding as L78/L72 can? Something else is the 27 extra cubes, which effectively make the cam smaller...which is going the opposite way. Just some oddities I suppose, but it would be fun to play with on a dyno...

Just got back from the engine builder with the engine and was wrong on one thing. It was not a .060 motor but rather .040. The peak horsepower was 492 at 5900 RPM. Peak torque was 497 @ 3900 RPM and falling from there to 429 @ 6000 RPM. Ron told me that had they been able to run the MSD, the engine would have pulled 500-505 hp through the exhaust. I cannot tell you how many people have told me that a big block Chevy cannot produce 500 hp through manifolds. Wrong!

The ONLY differences between this engine and the last one Ken built for me was this one was a 4492 carbed (built by Eric) and run through manifolds whereas the other was a 4557 (built by Woodriff) and run through headers. That and the previous engine was overbored .060. Other than that they were built identically with no modifications using a very stock style cam and piston configuration. The 4557 engine pulled a max of 475 hp at 6100 RPM and max torque of 483 @ 3600 RPM. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Can you find out which correction factor was used, and what type of dyno? Was it a step test or sweep? If it was a sweep, how many rpm/second?

If not, can you post the observed #'s vs. the corrected ones? (peaks are fine)
