Rich, I donīt think the square is always crowded. But most pics taken there and sent around the world are taken at special occasions when it is crowded.
This palace was built in memory of the man who united Italy, some 110-120 years ago. I donīt remember the names ! Mussolini used it during WW2. |

At least 30 feet of the outer shell has been removed, hundreds of years ago, half way around.

Thousands of tons of marble has been removed during the years, and used in other buildings in Rome. There is a small area to the right in the picture where they have reconstructed the seats inside the Colosseum. There was marble all around the place up to the highest level, the fourth, which was built of wood.
70.000 people could attend the amphitheatre one day. Some days as many as 5.000 animals where killed. |

We also went something like 15 miles outside Rome to a small town in the surrounding mountains, called Tivoli. There we found this nice little castle that I would love to own.
