Re: 1970 CD2 Washer Fluid Monitor Float, Any Repro?

Hello,

I bought one of these with all of the hardware to install (or at least I think I do...) But I have not installed it because the washer tank is so yellow. I have tried to bleach it out a few times and it helped. But its still pretty yellow. Does anyone know how to get the aged yellow color out of the plastic?

Also, does anyone have a step by step process on installing? Like where do the wires come through the firewall? Where does it connect to the fuse box? The exact location of the indicator under the dash? Or anything else you can think of. Its hard to find any info on-line on these things. My car did come with one of these from the factory so it should be a little bit easier to install. Thanks for the help!

Pick up a 1970 Chevelle/Monte Carlo AIM.(Assembly Instruction Manual)
It shows the installation and measurements.

The Firewall location is at the top right corner of the Junction fuse box location (Photo shows it popped out) there should be a dimple there if it has never been drilled out or a hole if your car came with the CD2 option.

The Washer Fluid monitor should be place right under and centered to that trim line near the vent (see photo) There should be 2 holes there if it came with the CD2 option, a small hole for the plastic tab nipple and a larger hole for the hardware.

Both photos are from a survivor 70 Chevelle.

As far as hook up goes, there were a few ways the positive wire got hooked up. One was spliced in to the Wiper motor wire, another variation was connected to the positive relay, another variation went to the fuse box. This all depends on how long your factory positive wire is. A good way of knowing it goes to the fuse box is if the positive wire runs through the grommet. These are my experiences from having 4 complete units.

As far as the bottle goes, there is now a repro of the square bottom bottle with no part number as that's ok as there was a real GM bottle without the number anyways but what happens is the top of the light unit sticks out like a sore thumb as it will always be a Yellow tone while the repro bottle will be snow white. I recommend to install the original even though it is aged with Yellow Toning.

Anthony I also sent you a private PM on how to get that bottle looking much better.

Your Welcome Anthony.
I dug this out today which is an Original Fuse box to show you your Fuse box location for the Washer Fluid Positive wire connection, you will need a female connector at the end of the wire to hook up to the male pin at the fuse box (Like XXX Rated Sex LOL)

Marked "LPS" is your hook up pin were you can see it works in line with the "INST LPS" Instrument panel lamps which will be ideal to run at the same time your lights are on. Photo shows the front and back of the fuse box.

Thanks Charlie, People have helped me here a lot and it's nice to help back. I find that's what this site is all about.
Anthony just emailed me and said his Monitor system works perfectly the way I laid it out for him and he is very happy.

When he turns on his light switch the monitor system also turns on.

Danny,
I can not thank you enough for the help. This is one of the coolest but yet strangest options I have ever seen. Pretty high tech for 1970. It works perfectly thanks to my purchase 2+ years ago from one of the members on here. Then thanks to Danny for walking me through the processs. This site is still by far and away the best out there.

Thanks again,
Anthony
