For more inspiration, I drove this '78 Y82 at Mecum a few years ago. IIRC, it sold for $68,000 - and this was a year or two before 2nd gen Trans Ams caught fire.

My wife and I spotted an IROC-Z yesterday and passed the owner..... BINGO Mullet!!

First, the above is not what is classically considered a "mullet". The mullet came later, like in the '90's. This is better described as a stylish hair style circa 1986.

Second, if you are going to use a stereotype for a 1978 Trans Am, it would be more along the lines of the "disco" culture. See Saturday Night Fever for inspiration.

My buddy's mom bought a 78 last fall and he worked on it all winter. When she first looked at it she told me it had no rust. It was terrible we ended up pulling the axle out to work on the rear frame rails the trunk was bad floors were bad fenders were bad it was a mess. She told me all she wanted was carpet put in, I told her there was nothing to hold the carpet up. That car is loaded tho. He had a lot of trouble getting the right weather strip for the t-tops. And it did not fit very good

Any pictures of it or the rust? I'd love to see 'em. Just sounds interesting.

This car had the dash hacked, a.c. removed, interior was all painted. Poor car. My buddy is an excellent panel repair guy for working in computers! The car is back at his house and I will get pics. Oh it was running warm and he knew the engine had been rebuilt so he pulled the thermostat off and instead of laying on the manifold someone had shoved it up in the water neck and the water neck was mostly plugged off from the housing of the thermostat. I told him you know that guy probably was the one to put the engine back together. Now he's concerned LOL. It was smashed and shoved tight in the neck. He found the typical some places have better fitting sheet metal than others, so Dave if you need any information let me know

Any update? Looking forward to this build.

Car is in my shop, I'm starting to collect parts and see what all it needs. You know.... that "fun" stage when you first get something new! But it'll be on ice until I get the Mustang done, or someone pays me an astronomically stupid amount of money for it, then wants me to start on it first and put the Mustang in hold. Anyone? :hmmm: Buehler......?
