----All the machined pads should be bare metal as they were machined after the case was painted. That's why so many stampings on the front are rough from rusting. As well, the dates I have seen are often illegible. Not sure why......Bill S

Can you take a close pic of that US stamp? What I see looks like a small font US stamp which is not right.
I see the date code is behind the bale.

There are quite a few 309s where the casting date is completely illegible.
