I don't think the data plate was sandblasted - I think that's the white paint that they sprayed on the 67 tags for some reason. I have seen that on a lot of original 67's. Any rhyme or reason why this was done? Visibility for the assembly line workers?

When they repainted they even painted the wheel weights.

Guess they wanted them to match! :p

What are the odds that the lug nuts match as well? :hmmm:

I don't think so.

The line workers could refer to the build sheet, which was certainly more visible (and more comprehensive).

The cowl tag is an early version of what we now call the SPID (Service Parts ID) label.

The white trim tags have been debated for years. I don't believe there is any question that SOMEONE at Norwood was painting them; but I don't believe a distinctive pattern has been discovered.

I believe Phil (70COPO ??? not sure of his name here) has some contacts with Norwood workers. Seems I remember him posting a reason provided by one of those workers.

My 1967 z/28 was a Van Nuys built car and it had white overspray on the tag, but it was from the white stripes I believe. :)

My theory is that there was some random dude at the plant with a can of white spray paint who thought he would give us all something to debate 50 years down the road. :D

I thought they were white to make them easier to read during assembly...

That is what I remember reading. I know there was a thread on the white trim tags over on the CRG site, but I couldn't find it.
