Re: Possible COPO Chevelle?
Doh! N, B, same difference! Guess I'm having a little trouble switching from Camaro to Chevelle mode this morning. I got the important part correct though...

Re: Possible COPO Chevelle?
Any numbers in the extreme upper right of trim tag? Also look for evidence of "Maliblu" emblem in q-panels (shouldn't be there) and look for factory stamped (not drilled) holes for rear panel trim between tail lights. The build sheets have be found literally anywhere in the car. In headliner, doors, under carpet, under dash, in fenders, but mostly in seat springs (front or rear). It would be great if you can find it. Also check for BB rad support. I have alot of info on COPO Chevelle trim tags and can tell more if I see a good picture of the trim tag.

Re: Possible COPO Chevelle?
So does this car have a Malibu interior?

Re: Possible COPO Chevelle?
Yes, the interior is definately a Malibu interior. It has Malibu on the steering wheel, dash and door panels. There are no signs of SS396 anywhere on the car. I checked the tail panel, and you can tell that it originally had the two moldings going across it, but could locate no holes in the middle for the SS396 emblems. Also, we could see no sign of the Malibu emblem holes in the quarters, and we're 99% sure these are the original quarters.
Someone else said to check for the big block radiator support, but I'm not totally sure how to check this. It does have the big block braces in the rear connecting to the rear end upper control arms. A picture of the trim tag is on the way, have to pull it off the digital cam and hope that it came out OK. |

Here are two shots of the trim tag, although neither came out too good. The key is that there is a number in the upper right corner, and it is 16.

Let me try again, this time the images are much bigger...

Re: Possible COPO Chevelle?
I'd bet that the "8" stamped on top of the 1 in "B1175" is supposed to be in the lower left hand corner of the trim tag, in the exact opposite location of the "16". That would be consistent with the rest of the trim tags I have. Judging by the position of the 8 and the 16 I'd say the trim tag was punched rather "hastily"!
