Intersting...
Anyone else notice the carburetors in those pics of the #3 and #5 car (assuming they are in fact #'s 3 and 5) They still have their factory-installed 4346 carbs instead of the 4296 units. (FWIW...whaddayaexpect from a carburetor guy anyhow?!? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif ) Eric |
Re: ZL1 items
Nice catch on the carbs. I wonder why those carbs are installed on ZL1s. The vette also looks to have a aluminum water outlet.

Re: ZL1 items
That is #3 for sure. Notice the missing nut on the upper alt bracket stud.
It is highly likely that is #5 based on it being a dark color automatic and the mention that it went to Shay Nichols. Gibb sold the #2 car shortly after he received it. The #5 test was reviewed 30 years later by the original writer, Ro McGonegal in the June 1998 Hot Rod. He mentioned the car was built with a "vacuum secondary" carb and they swapped an 850, making traction worse. DH managed an 11.64/122 out of it with lousy traction-it was cold, early in the year as Gibb is wearing a top coat and the trees in the background are bare. I guess #5 still exists but there is not much left. |

I'm not saying either story is credible, they're just the most plausible ones I've personally heard so far. Eric |
Re: ZL1 items
An OE flat-bottom duct hood air cleaner has a vent tube with a 90º bend. The tube will contact the rear pump on a DP carb. Later vent tubes have 2 45º bends.
Notice the #3 car has a metal heater hose clamp; #5 built minutes later has a ty-wrap. |
Re: ZL1 items
I was wondering what the hell that was.
