Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
Pretty hard to top that car.
Surprised how much the trade in allowance was on the 66 Nova he gave up to buy this car! |
Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
I be leave it was an almost new trade in, then again remember the Canadian prIce foR a car was a hell of a lot more than the U.S. We here in Canada are still being ripped off.
THats why I purchase my vehicles in the US. |

Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
Great car and an awesome story. LOVE IT

Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
The question on my mind is what would this car be worth on the market, keeping in mind that
The motion transplant 427 has not been verified by motion,I only have the witness signed letter From the orig owner and abundant history for this car. I also have eye witnesses that knew of the transplant back in the day. PJ |
Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
Just by taking a guess and without the official verification from Motion I would say in the $125-175K. I realize that is a large range but it would vary on the degree of restoration. From the pictures I would say on the higher end of that range.

<span style="font-weight: bold">Thanks for your opinion Darrell </span> No expence was spared for the restoration all matching numbers and lots of NOS parts Did all the work myself except the body and paint. I was surprized at how many of its orig parts were still on the car when I restored it 11 months full almost full time, loved every minute. PJ _________________________ |

Triple blue rag. Car was restored in 91 or 92 by Allan Patterson the engine builder in KS. He bought it from the family of the original owner in Baton Rouge LA. Lots of docs including finance agreement and pop. I've asked this before but has anyone seen this combo before? Lemans Blue with blue top and interior.

Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners

Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners

Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
That 68 L78 Camaro ragtop is very nice and ultra rare!! George's 67 triple blue L78 Camaro convertible is the only other one I have seen. Different years but otherwise somewhat similar.
|
Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
There is also a Canadian sold triple blue L78 '67 Camaro convert that still exists.

Interesting! It sure would be nice to see some photos. |
Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
Provided the engine and cylinder heads are original (I'm assuming they are, can't check the block as the numbers right below the cylinder head are MIA) my grandfather's is an L78. Tried to get in contact with the man who owned it in the 80s to learn more, but he never got back to me.

Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
As the old saying goes never assume.. Get some casting numbers, dates and pics of the trim tag & vin. You can pm them to me if you don't want to post them here. Also I asked previously for pics of fuel line coming up the subframe and to the fuel pump but you never posted them. Also get a pic of the firewall behind the distributor looking down.. Thanks, Darrell

I'll try. Couldn't see any casting numbers, or dates, or anything like that when I crawled under it because it's so tight. I'll snap a pic of the trim tag though. Car might be coming out of the garage today or tomorrow so I'll take a look. |
Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
You can add me to the list! Just emailed the guy who raced it in the 80s! Was an L78!
EDIT: Maybe. He said the code was ML on the block, which I know isn't right, since that would be a '67 327 block. EDIT 2: Now confirmed as originally having an MQ block! Wonder where that is? EDIT 3: MQ block is long gone. Oh well, at least I know it had one. |
Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
Don't take this the wrong way but a lot can happen in 12 years.. Keep searching and see if you can talk to the original owner or find some paperwork..

Re: 1968 Camaro L78 owners
Wanted to bring this back up to the top.. Was updating my list tonight and wanted to see if there were any others out there that would like to add their info to my database/registry. Thanks, Darrell

1968 RS/SS Camaro Convertible L78
I have a Butternut Yellow 1968 RS/SS Camaro Convertible L78. High optioned with 4-speed, AM/FM Stereo 8-track multiplex, tic-toc-tach (6 grand redline of course) and gauges, tilt wheel and power top. I added a factory luggage rack so looks like a real sleeper. Owner's names back to new and was confirmed L78 by 2nd owner (1971-1973) whom purchased car from original owner. Original block but not original but correct heads. Purchased it from best friend's estate but I checked the car out for him back in 1999 before purchasing which was from a well known collector.

I’ll can get that info to you after the holidays
|
Sounds good thank you.

I am seriously considering selling my L78 convertible and probably should hold off sharing all of those details and allow new owner to provide if they choose since a lot of it provides owner history etc. which will only be provided to very serious buyer.
