Got to spend some time looking at Tim's Corvette and talking with him and Bill W. Had a good day down there. Bought some donation books I don't need and Tim bid on a set of 4 vanity plates for me.
OMG, are there some nicely restored cars there...Corvette fever meter went nuts. Still don't know that I would ever buy one, but I sure would like one...does that make sense ?? :dunno:

Xplantdad 06-09-2023 08:39 PM

Sounds like you had a great time!:beers:

TimG 06-10-2023 12:01 PM

I didn't see your green car in the picture recap of the event on the NCRS site, but I heard Bob Demmel judged your exterior yesterday. He commented on both you and the car saying both were wonderful. I'm sure you did well, Tim. We took a two-week trip for my wife's birthday, or I would have been at Bloomington.

Here's one for you Tim! I have a commitment today (Saturday) but on Friday brought along two of my best friends who are C1, C2 and C3 owners. Met up with friends old and new, great time! 77 cars, wow! - Bill W

TimG 06-10-2023 03:34 PM

Thank you, Bill. That's lots of cars, I'm glad it is a successful Regional.

This weekend resulted in an NCRS Regional Top Flight, the Bowtie sign off in all 4 areas, and thus now qualified for the NCRS National meet in July. At that point, the car will be judged for the Star / Bowtie Award. For those who are not familiar with the NCRS Star / Bowtie program, click this link below
https://www.ncrs.org/services/judging-awards.php#BOWTIE

With the Top Flight this weekend (in addition to last weeks Gold / Benchmark), the car is now qualified for the MCACN Triple Diamond award. The car is also signed up in Vintage Certification at this years MCACN show.

Certainly getting some windshield time as of late!

All the judges have been a pleasure to talk to, in addition to being a wealth a knowledge. The theory of "keep your mouth shut and ears open" applies:biggthumpup:

Tim, you're really knocking out the awards with the 1970 Corvette. I can't wait to see it.

dykstra 06-12-2023 12:30 AM

Congratulations Tim!!

Thanks, Tim. Didn't think I would actually get them for that bid, I'll take 'em.
As I mentioned when we placed the bid, we are heading up to the UP in a couple weeks and could make a little side jog and meet up.

Sounds good. Let me know specifically when you are thinking. I have to run back over towards Minneapolis to grab a car:cool2:

I'll shoot you a PM.

Nice car! If any of your corvette friends are looking for a 70 corvette LS5 all rebuilt and ready to go! I have one.

sixt9rsx33 06-13-2023 11:37 PM

Congrats Tim! You are certainly making the effort to show the car!

Thanks Lawrence. All the time on the road has brought some cars to my attention. The NCRS show in Rochester afforded me the opportunity to buy another car:biggthumpup: Soooooo, another 700 miles on Wednesday west of Minneapolis to pick that up.

I'm like a child without a blanket when I don't have a midyear. If I could only have 1 car, it would be a midyear Corvette:)

I'll create a thread when I get some pics and info. It should be a nice bookend to the 70.

As mentioned in the thread I started for Bill Wente's 67, our car received the NCRS 4 star Bowtie Preservation award. Tracey (and others) are on me to take a trip out to the Ontario NCRS Regional at the end of September. That would afford the opportunity to get a Performance Verification (1st try) as well a check the box for a Bowtie display. I need to display the car at 2 Chapter meets, and 2 Regionals in order to qualify the 5th Star.

I must say, the idea of getting the 5th Star for the Bowtie award, and the opportunity to get a Duntov award at next years National event, has an distinct appeal.

We're headed to MCACN this year to contend for a Triple Diamond, and spin the car through Vintage Certification.

If everything goes to plan, the car will have received most every award it can achieve (in the Corvette hobby).

RPOLS3 08-06-2023 01:22 AM

You should listen to Tracey :beers::grin:

I can’t tell you have rare that achievement is! I don’t know the actual # of the Vettes that have achieved it but it’s not many. Also, kuddos to the owners who do this also because the time and money investment is not faint either. Continued good luck Tim!

turbojet427 08-10-2023 02:51 AM

Congratulations Tim! Great car, well deserved!!!

napa68 10-19-2023 08:50 PM

As MCACN is getting closer, we are ready to go. Arrangements are made with Reliable, as are the flights and dinner reservations. I have the usual troublemakers to find (Dykstra's) among a growing list of others.

Added to that, I recently have consigned this car to Mecum for the 2024 Kissimmee Auction. Soooo, on Saturday January 13th, 2024 the car will go across the block.

The photographer from Mecum was out here this past Monday. I gotta say, he knocked it out of the park IMO. Dan (the photographer) and his wife Carol have been long term members of the Mecum crew, and only live about 40 minutes away from us. Dan was an absolute pleasure to work with!!

I don't know that BaT is the best for a survivor type car. Added to the fact, I KNOW I wouldn't get a reserve I felt was appropriate with BaT. Mecum stepped up with an estimate that shocked me a bit. Added to that, I was pleasantly surprised with a good Saturday lot number. I figured the car would be a Thursday or Friday car at best.

In the worst case scenario, I am happy to bring the car back home if I cannot ring the bell. It's a killer car and almost impossible to replace (can you read some regret in this paragraph?). It would be a great stablemate to the 5 Star Bowtie injected 65 I just bought.

On a side note, the 65 I just spoke of was a BaT auction. It did not perform on BaT. That worked out well for me:grin:

It's a beautiful Vette and well documented. I will be watching as it crosses the block..... GLWS.

The Mecum photos are great - hope the car knocks it out of the park...........and we're honored to be considered your troublemakers :beers:

We are a few weeks removed from MCACN. I have lost the weight that I gained, I caught up on the sleep that I missed, and I'm back at the grind. Tracey and I had a TREMENDOUS time!

We did get our MCACN Gold and the Triple Diamond Award. As many of you know, the car was judged in Vintage Certification as well. In that judging discipline, we achieved a Legend level award. The car missed Time Capsule by .26% in one category:smirk:

Oh well........on to Mecum!

duskblue 12-09-2023 01:47 AM

super nice car ,good luck

I am glad to report, things did not go as planned at Mecum (doesn't that sound conflicted?) While initially, it looked like I really had a good lot number, all of the ".1, .2, etc. lots had me with over 360 cars in front of me. In short, the car hit the block at around 8:30 pm. The heat in the room was decidedly different from an hour previous, to say nothing for the balance of the day. I'm not going to dwell on that......moving on.

The car was delivered this past Friday night. I must say I was impressed how easily the car started (at -5 degrees F). The same cannot be said for the tailgate on the transporter. I was lucky to get the friggin car off of there.

So you ask, now what? As I mentioned, I am VERY happy to get the car back. I am starting to get ready for the next stage of judging in the NCRS realm. That being what is called a "Performance Verification" Below, is a link to see what that involves.....
https://www.ncrs.org/services/judgin...hp#Performance

https://www.ncrs.org/njc/PV_Sheets/6...g%20Sheets.pdf

If all goes well, the car would then get judged again at an NCRS National event (again), in order to get it's Duntov Award. If things would go to plan, I could also get the 5th Bowtie Star at the same event.

Now if I could only find that damn fuel pump???

dykstra 01-22-2024 11:02 PM

Good for you Tim!!!

Too Many Projects 01-23-2024 01:17 AM

Well dang nab-it, that's a durn shame you had to bring that car back home...
Now find the danged fuel pump !

olredalert 01-23-2024 02:27 PM

----Tim,,,Exact same thing happened to me at BJ,,,almost. I had an Ls6 Chevelle there that was pretty nice. Has a really good friday number. Line was moving slowly. A couple of us started to look around and found many numbered cars with a letter after. Some dealers with more pull than me had as mny as 10/12 extra cars on one number. Mine didn't go off until 10.30. There were three people in the audience and the car sold for around $15,000 less than it should have. The "almost" is that mine actually sold. I believe this goes on a lot more than we hear!....Bill S

"Now if I could only find that damn fuel pump???"

Tim,

Corvettes like yours sell best to a TRUE "Corvette Guy" who understands what he's buying, not some guy who is liquored up at 8:30 on a Friday night trying to impress his "Niece" he has on his shoulder (I have seen this way to many times at auctions). This car is one of a hand full of cars that can make the claims your Corvette can, so it going to go to someone who will be it's next caretaker that understands it's pedigree is paramount. I applaud you for going for the 5th Star, I wish I did the Bowtie judging with my Founding Benchmark 1967 Lynndale Roadster I sold to Tom O'Grady but I had to leave some "Meat on the Bone" for him. Good luck to you Sir, it is a SPECIAL Corvette and deserves what you are doing for All of the Corvette hobby to see. Bill
